Should Dre even have told us it would be called 'Detox'?
« on: April 01, 2009, 04:08:19 AM »
It's kind of a rambling point, but I was thinking about this the other day. Was Dre confirming that his album would be called 'Detox' a gift and a curse? Not in the choice of name, but in the very act of giving it a definite name?

On the one hand, having a name for the album creates hype and excitement. But at the same time, it feels like he now has no choice but to stick with that title. The very word has become part of hip-hop folklore. Mention the word' detox' to any hip-hop head and I'm sure they'll immediately associate it with Dre. So now, if he has some crazy new plan or comes up with a better title or even concept, isn't he stuck with 'Detox', simply because he's spent the bets part of a decade with everyone from fans to the industry waiting for a CD with that word on the inlay?

I'm not sure what my point is here (ha!), but it just struck me that if instead of waiting for 'Detox' we were waiting for 'Dre's next album', there would somehow be less pressure on the guy. Just talk of 'the Detox' album' seems to have helped fuel expectations even higher than they would be anyway... You know?

I see what you're saying; by giving it a name, Dre given it a life of it's own.

The irony is that having waited so long for some new Dre crack, we sorta in 'Detox' right now.

Yeah - I like the way you've managed to say in one sentence what I tried to say in three paragraphs, ha ha.

if i was a rapper ... id do a smart marketing move and call my next album 'Detox'

unless Dre has copyrights to it ?  ??? like i remember Dre couldnt use 'Chronic' as his album name for 2001, when he wanted to name it Chronic 2/ Chronic 2001 cos of Death Row

imagine the extra buzz and interest any album would get simply by being called 'Detox'

well you'd certainly lose the respect of the hip hop community.

He should just re-title it as "StreetBangaz Vol. 1" or something cheap and disappointing.

I thought that Knoc'Turnal was the one who first released the name. I remember him saying the title and then saying how it's going to be 12 trax due to the 12 step program.

12 tracks only ?....who know's maybe he will have tracks in between the steps, skits, interludes, and maybe the 12 steps set up the tracks also.......who knows !

bishop might be right as far as saying it will back fire.
EVERY LAST ONE OF ''Y-O-U'' BELIEVE THAT DR. DRE HAS MADE THESE SONG's FOR ''Y-O-U''.
THE REALITY IS THAT THE SONG's ARE ''ABOUT Y-O-U'' !!!!!!

I really wish another artist would release an album by that name. I would kill if Daz put out an album called Detox.

You're probably right.  Thinking of this also brings to mind other names like "Helter Skelter," "Oh My God," "Thy Kingdom Come," "Not These Niggaz Again," and "Murder Weapon."  There's a definate pattern there.  That's why anymore, I pretty much take everything Dre says with a grain of salt.  I hope Detox comes out, but I won't believe it until I see it.

Dre shouldnt never even told us that he was working on detox or even planing on dropping another album. He should of announced it when he was finish with the album and ready to put the album out.Now the expectation is to high.No matter how good the album is,people still gonna have something to say because of how long they had to wait.its gonna be like it took u 15 years to make this?
