My thoughts on the west coast producers/beat makers......
« on: April 01, 2009, 11:42:02 AM »
Dj Quik Muggs > Fred Wreck Battlecat >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>all the others

Quik and Muggs are producers and beat makers at the same time, they know how to play music....same thing for Fred Wreck,i'm not sure about Battlecat.
Honestly nobody can fuck with these 4 producers, you can say what you want about dre but at the end of the day he needs 15 people in the studio with him to make a beat.

battlecat has done a great job convincing me he's back but i will need to hear more current shit from him to decide if he's really back because there used to be a time when you didn't ever hear a sub par battlecat track. he slipped a couple of times but he's forgiven. fred wreck probably still has it. he needs to go back to that 2000-2001 era shit he used to do. soopafly bounced back lovely the shit wit dub union was great. his new shit is nice. terrance martin is coming into his own self with his sound that's so refreshingly west coast. muggs has and will always be great. quik needs to come back to his live shit. sir jinx is great but i need to hear more current shit to make a full assessment (damn my vocab is sick and i'm high.....LOL). daz is ass ! he needs to beg dre for forgiveness. the great doctor is always great and i hope detox is what i'm expecting it to be. jelly roll is great. blaqtoven is dope too. dj khalil is great. dj pooh still got it...........this is pretty much my outlook as far as west producers go. the ones that count right now for the west. oh i almost forgot about alchemist and evidence and madlib who are all incredible.

What the fuck are you talking about? In my opinion Daz has been the most consistent producer on the West in the past 7 years. Its annoying as hell that he's still rapping his same bars from 92-94 but his beats are bangin and he's giving us bangers without trying to recreat G-Funk. Think I'm wrong? Listen to his remake of Cube's "Summer Vacation". Or listen to "Dogg Chit".

Rick Rock has far surpassed anything Fredwreck, Battlecat and Quik have done combined in the last 3 years.

I didn't say the other producers don't got hit but in many cases they are hit or miss with their beats... specially nowadays. But you can't say that on Johnny 'J' - in a last couple of years we rarely hear beats from him on people album's but when he dropped something it was the shit 8)! Just listen to songs like "Still", "Never Forget" or "Part 2" etc

Can't wait to hear Tatyana Ali's new cd - Johnny 'J' made about 80% of the production for this album 8)

the production process is him maybe doing the beats on different instruments (drum machine) then telling musicians what to play..........just like a other producers..........its just that Quik's is WAAAAAAAAAYYY TOOOO FUNKY!
