in english:
Dogma and Ritual of High Magic
Perhaps one of the most elusive books on the occult market is Eliphas Levi's "Transcendental Magic: It's Doctrine and Ritual". Written in 1855.
"Transcendental Magic" is broken into two books, appropriately "Doctrine" and "Ritual". Both books are divided up into 22 chapters.
Presented is the first graphic representation of Satan in goat form. A character known as "baphomet".

I read it and just a warning, a lot of what's presented is written through series after series of allegories. You'll have to think a little less literally, but it is a great book if you're interested in occult type stuff.

Looks awesome I shalt peepeth.
Satan/Baphomet is portrayed as a goat because he/she/it partly originated from the ancient Greek god
Pan
.
The Church reshaped Pan as the representative of evil, Satan, in their historical PR campaign against all the nature orientated beliefs that used to be all around Europe back before the Holy Roman Empire.

Dogma and Ritual of High Magic
^Such images are designed to give your average anal-retentive tunnel-vision monotheist a repulsive feeling in their stomach, either that or fly over their head.
At a glance, a young Adept-Overfiend:
notes the flame at the head, which harks back to the memory of Loki, the Nordic god who brought fire down to the peoples of the Earth.
Also note the succulent boobies, which symbolise the Female Principle and fertility.
The intertwined serpents represent knowledge.
The two black and white moons symbolise duality.
The goat's head symobolises Pan, who was the god of many things, namely good times, enjoyment of nature and material things and also, in a Freudian sense; the Ego and as everybody has an ego, everybody was said to serve Pan in some way, however what manner of servant is the question.
The average person may not bother to look deeper into such images and will be content to resign themself to it as just another representation of 'evil' or devilishness' and continue on with seeing life in much the same simple-minded manner, and even if they do discern some of the esoteric meaning, often they still can't help shaking that notion, so they'll decide its just part of something elitist globally vast and sinister...
However, human consciousness has been steadily expanding. We come a long way baby.
