i voted for the 3rd option as i don't spot a difference in quality.by the way, i think he still uses samples quite often, just not as many samples as he used to.

There's not that much difference between what he's doing now and what he did then. Back then he used established samples and improved on them and mixed them. Now he has in-studio musicians come up with melodies and does the same thing with them.
