New Jack City was a pretty sick movie though.

It was, but seriously Belly is over hated. I thought it was pretty decent.

Aside from the bad acting and writing that was already mentioned, I think Belly's story could have been decent if they actually expanded on the plot points. The movie had way too much going on in it, and it wasn't long enough for all of that. Like when that dude tried to kill Nas at the barbershop. I didn't even know who that was the first time watching it, and then when I eventually re-watch the movie years later and finally realize who he is, it was just like "Uh, okay." They cramp up so many story arcs in too little time, it gets to the point where you stop caring.

I've seen so many movies like that with many story arcs - I guess I am use to it. Sure, it had bad acting but then again this is a hood movie with rappers in it. It's like expecing 50 Cent or Spider Loc to be the next Al Pacino. It ain't happening - you take it for what it is. I wish the REAL Belly 2 would happen.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying there's anything wrong with movies with a lot of story arcs, as a matter of fact, I actually PREFER those types of movies. Shit like Heat, Crash, etc.

But the problem in Belly is that so much of it leads nowhere, ends abruptly, or didn't seem to serve a big enough purpose on the grand scale of things (that could have easily been fixed with better writing too). It was the same problem that appeared in Spider-man 3. They already had Peter Parker's gay ass emo "I hate being a hero" storyline that happens in each movie, plus crying over Mary-Jane, and then Harry becoming Goblin, and then they mixed it in with Sandman's personal life, and on top of that decided to add Venom to the mix? Sometimes it just gets to the point where the audience just stopped caring.

I think if Belly was longer, it could've been better. It sounds weird saying that, because it seems like a lot of people already thought it was boring to begin with, but I think if they added more depth to all the mini story-arcs they had on the side to tie it in somewhere, it definitely would have kept more people into the movie and would have felt like a more complete movie.
