Poor Suge....
« on: June 03, 2009, 04:57:33 PM »
Dude tries to get back on his feet and they still try blackballing him....

MARION ‘SUGE’ KNIGHT will face a lawsuit if he continues with plans to call his music label Blackball Records - the owners of a company with the same name are threatening him with legal action.

Knight co-founded Death Row Records in 1991 but lost the rights to the label’s assets after declaring bankruptcy in 2006. The company was subsequently sold off and Knight started a new label - reportedly using the Blackball name since 2008.

But the owners of another Blackball Records, a San Fransisco, California-based firm, have issued a cease and desist letter to Knight, warning him to drop the name or face a showdown in court.

Knight claims to have filed for the copyright in 2006, but dropped it earlier this year (09), according to TMZ.com, while officials at Blackball Records claim to have held the trademark since 2002.

Lol. I like Suge. Sure, he ran his own label into the ground with help from everyone else. However, dude has an ear for good music and I respect that.

Suge isn't a jackass if he managed to find good talent before it went big - I.E. - Keisha Cole

I already knew this shit was going to happen, Black Ball was already a existing company (its not rap).I knew his ass wouldn't be able to use the damn name. PS why the fuck should we feel sorry?

The son of a bitch may of got dr. dre on, but the way he went about Death Row, in the end Horse fucked it into oblivion. With the rackateering, the beatings and the threats. Man Fuck the fat mother fucker.Asshole made fun of Eazy' E's Death, tried nickel and diming the fans with Second-Generation rip offs, Shafted artist on rightfully do money.Combined refusing to sell the masters so the artist could release them on their label, and releasing only about 1 or 2 just to force the fans to buy another bullshit 2PAC Remix compilation.

So fuck him, he should of done his work, and not fuck up, because his fat ass The West Coast nearly fell off the face of the fucking earth, and the G-Funk era came to a sad halt.Mother fucker should of done his research when it came to making a new label.

Now from what I said above makes it sound like I hate the nigga. I do in some aspects, but I respect him because if it wasn't for his shady tactics, we would never of had The Chronic, Doggy Style, shit everything. In the end his ass just needed to relax.

So do I have sympathy for his plight? fuck no. Do I think he could be a driving force again? Possibly. Should he make another label??? Yes & no. Yes, because he could possibly bring back the G-Funk Era and no, because he could possibly just screw over artist/fans.

It wasn't his fault half of the shit couldn't be released. I.E. - Dre filed lawsuits to keep them from getting released. Also, Suge was entitled to keep all the masters for later on considering he paid for most of the studio time. It wasn't his choice to sign all the rip off's, keep in mind - he was in jail (1997 - 2001). If the artists were business savvy, they wouldn't have gotten shafted. Plus, most of the stuff we hear is hearsay. The Eazy thing - I can't really speak on that.

finding talent doesn't have an affect on whether or not your a jackass. Case in point, Puffy discovered Big. The fact is the only rapper who he stayed cool with was Pac, and he got murdered.

Actually it does, because he knows what's in and what isn't. Thinking about it, if Dysfunktional Family would have came out a few years later - it would have been labeled a great soundtrack if not for the blackballing.

Also, wrong. Tha Realest, J Flexx, Petey Pablo, and multiple others are still cool with Suge. The only ones who aren't are Snoop, Dre, Tray Dee, and anyone affiliated with those dudes and for the right reasons.

ha i'm always gonna support what Suge does mostly because of the fact that he's got so many haters that really don't even know why they hate him.  if your one of his former artists then yeah i can't comment but so many fans act like they were there and knew what Suge was doin.

this might be a little far fetched but i stick up for Bush sometimes too b/c even tho he sounds like a dumbass when he talks, so many people hate him like they know what its like to run a country.

there's a handful of people that you can just outright hate without knowing and that goes for child molestors, rapists, hitler, jeffrey dahmer, etc.

i think i fucked up my original point but whatever i'll stick to this

Plus, most of the stuff we hear is hearsay. The Eazy thing - I can't really speak on that.

Yes it was, Suge Knight's main problem was pushing release dates.Albums missed released dates because Suge failed to broker the deals and push everything forward. Also wrong, Suge wasn't allowed to keep masters because of Studio Time. He was only allowed to keep masters during his Artist Contract time. Which as we all know was a Time based Iron clad contract (Anything they owned suge could distribute regardless of lawsuits).

So he could of released them and Dr. Dre or anyone couldn't say a damn thing do to the contract. In the end he didn't do it and tried to push forward with the second generation.

Also yes, he did sign the Rip offs. Keep in mind that while his bitch ass was in jail, The owner at the time (VP) was Kurupt, but all major decisions such as who signed was to go through suge. So Suge was responsible for Death Row's Destruction and failure to release anything during the second generation. He had problems with Knoch records, and was only releasing some tracks.\\

Only 1s who had a lawsuit (viable that is) was Amaru Records, which claimed that Tupac's recordings were Not under the contract (certain 1s anyways not all, All Eyez and Makaveli can't be touched).

Now you say if the artist were business savvy they wouldn't of gotten shafted.Suge has made contracts Time Based, and under the assertion anything they recorded for Death Row (Released or unreleased) was to be kept under his wing (he owns the masters).Thats said in done, its not about that. Its about the fact Suge didn't pay producers, artist or anyone at death row proper compensation for their work. That's why everyone in the first generation hated him, because while they got released suge did not pay them proper payment. That's why his stupid ass went up for racketeering charges.Because he extorted Artist, using threats, and verbal/physical abuse.

That's why Dr. Dre left, even Tupac while he had made money wasn't getting his fair share. Though because Tupac was on the success of All Eyez (which reached the 7 million mark while he was alive) and busy with the fued with biggie combined with the fact he was involved with Death Row East and his own Makaveli Records (which would of been distributed through Death Row). Tupac was to busy, all he did was record, he wasn't worried about the money at the time.

Only reason he's good with the second generation is because they never had to deal with suge face to face. He made major decisions behind bars, and when he was released, he screwed up several major releases.
