The Royals started out 18-11 and it first place in the Central it was the most exciting baseball I've ever seen in Kansas City... since then they've gone like 5-20 and fallen to next to last, soo to be last in a matter of one more Indians win...well.... that was fun watching two good months of real baseball.

Now I get to watch another 4 months of meaningless baseball before Chiefs season finally starts and I get to witness the start of the post-Herm Edwards football.  I wish chiefs season could hurry up and start because I'm tired of hearing about the royals....

...they have the best pitcher in baseball, Zack Grienke, yet they have the dumbest manager in the league, we have a great closer Joakim Soria who our manager has only used for 9 innings the whole damn season combined! (some of that due to injury but a lot of fans here theorize that he was injuried from being stiff due to inactivity)....our highest paid player Guillen refuses to run hard to fly balls, our second highest paid player Gill mesh, plays his heart out but is battling injuries, and after that we are basically a Triple AAA farm team.

The Rays did make the late push to win the game, but they were getting runners on base all game and couldn't get a clutch hit, and finally got them the last couple of innings. It's a long season and anything could happen, but I don't understand why managers don't bring in closers in the 7th or 8th more often if they are that good. And signing a player like Guillen when you are a small-market team isn't very smart because you know he isn't big on hustle even if he is talented. Somebody like Aaron Rowand would have been a better fit for that type of team because he is going to have set a good example for the young guys on the team.

I wouldn't count on the Chiefs, trading for Matt Cassell when Thigpen was the same guy and drafting Tyson Jackson 3rd overall don't give me much confidence that they know what they're doing.
I got a bird's eye view

Nice post,

and your right, the Royals were lucky to even have a chance today, because the Rays threatened in every inning.

I actually like Jose Guillen because he hit 20 homeruns 100 RBI's last yr and believe it or not he's  really tried to be a positive leader this year.

The players I mentioned in my post were the players I consider to be legitimate major leagurs.

I count really only around 5 legitimate major league ballplayers on the Royals..

Zack Grienke
Joakim Soria
Jose Guillen
Gill Mesh
John Bale, Cruz, Wright (relievers)

...after that we have an assortment of minor league players.  Alex Gordon was a number 1 draft pick and so was luke hochever and its been several years and they still haven't done shit for us.

And our manager is definitely not a major league manager.

...................................

As for the Chiefs.  Herm Edwards was almost as bad for the Chiefs as Trey Hillman is for the ROyals.

Getting Piloli and Haley in here was a breath of fresh air.  They will surely make the Chiefs a top tier AfC team for the next several years... I promise you!!  Haley from day one told this team, "you guys won 2 games last yr. I could win 2 games with 22 guys off the street!"

This dude haley is a straight up G, he is a bad ass coach and will bring us to average this year.. and playoffs every year thereafter...

...and your wrong about Thigpen, that shit was smoke and mirrors last year, they ran some pistol offense and he threw it to Tony Gonzales every play.

Matt Cassel is a big improvement on Thigpen, I like thigpen but he's  not a playoff caliber starting QB.

And Piloli had to draft a D lineman third pick because herm drafted Dorsey last year and tank tyler and turk mcbride the year before that and all three were busts and the chiefs have got to have somebody to stop the run.

With good pitching and the teams in the AL Central struggling, the Royals could make a run. I like Jose Guillen but as you pointed out, he is not a hustle guy and that's the type of atmosphere you want to see with young guys is having fun but upset when they make mistakes. As a Giants fan last year, I absolutely hated Omar Vizquel and the way he would slowly jog on a ground ball and skip back to the dugout like it was a great time. Run it out and play the game with some real passion, not a retirement tour where you make a few plays when you feel like it. The young guys in the Royals' lineup aren't that bad, but their streaks and slumps seem to coincide too much.

As for the Chiefs, the AL West should be weak and the Chargers are overrated in my opinion. I'm just not a believer in Cassel, he seems like a shotgun spread QB with weak arm strength and decent athleticism, which I think Thigpen had. I could be wrong (and most analysts think Cassel will be a good QB) but I don't see much difference. If Dorsey, Jackson and the rest of that young D show up to play, it won't matter. They could be the surprise of the NFL next year.

trade Grienke to the YAnkees

and the Chiefs will finish behind SD but above the others in the division....Denver may surprise ppl tho, i like what they did on DEFENSE and Brandon Marshall will help Kyle Orton in many ways that Chicago couldn't

Good memory.  It was a fluke season, I bet you can't name even one player from our 2003 team.   It was there only winning season since 1994 when they still had George Brett.

..So maybe I am really asking to much to ask them to have another fluke year and be decent.  Because it already happened.

No way man... Denver is going to be awful this year.  They made the worst offseason moves.  Firing a 2-time Superbowl winning brilliant head coach, and then trading Jay Cutler?   Their new manager should be fired and the season hasn't even started.

Your right a bout San Diego, they will probably win the division with Shawn Mariom back.    I just predicted that the Chiefs would be around 7-9 this year, which is still a big improvement.  Then soon we will become mainstays in the playoffs every year like in the 90's when we went every damn year in the 90's under Shottenhiemer.

Even Grienke is getting rocked now.  He just gave up 7 runs against the Blue Jays in a 9-3 loss.

The problem with Jose Guillen isn't his hustling, it's his ability.  He's an average player getting paid the big bucks.
