After rebuilding the Celtics from scratch, and drafting the first African American player in the then NBA draft, officially breaking the color barrier, Auerbach began to build a dynasty. In 1956, Red saw the team he build, as he traded for all the players, win it's first of 9 NBA titles under his guidance. After the 1956 season, Red would draft Bill Russell. In 1959, Red would get his rematch with the Minnaepolis Lakers, which would be a rivalry that would dominate the NBA for generations, and win his second title. This would also be the first of an unheard of 8 titles in a row, and only end with Red Auerbach retiring and Bill Russell becoming a player-coach in 1966.

Many said Phil only wins titles because of the talent around him, but the talent around him don't win until Phil gets there. Taking over a Bulls team with the most talent player in the world, Phil had to get the team to buy into team offense in order to spread the ball and take pressure off his star Michael Jordan. Putting in the triangle offense, Phil was able to lead the Bulls to 6 titles in 8 years. Then he took over a Laker team who had Shaq and Kobe, and but unrealized talent. Leading them to a three-peat, Phil seemed to complete his legacy, but came back in 2005 to coach a younger Laker team, and develop them to champions in 2009.

Coming from WW2 in 1946, he relieved his old high school coach in Indiana St., then shock things up by refusing to go to the NAIB National Tournament because of their ban of black players, and John Wooden had a African-Amercan in his team. After the color barrier was broke, John Wooden would move to UCLA, and build a UCLA program off of colorful personalities like Walt Hazzard, Lew Alcindor (Kareem Abdul-Jabbar) and Bill Walton. Taking talent and egos, and fitting them in a team concept Wooden was able to hold them together for 10 NCAA championships, and ended 27 years of coaching on top of the NCAA once again.

State your case. I stated a case for Red. Red help break the racial barrier, he lead the way as GM/Coach who only won 9 because he retired to focus on coaching more, you can almost give him the other 2 the Celtics won in the 60's and say he won 11. Don't just go... awww shit, Sccit is voting Phil, I hate him and the Lakers, fuck them. Stand up and state your claim.

The 3 coaches I listed I think are the greatest coaches ever. I was going to name Pat Summitt, because she's the has more wins that any other coach in NCAA history, and 8 National Titles, but I don't think a woman's coach would go over well, so I stuck to the big 3. If there was to be a Mt. Rushmore of basketball coaches though, Phil, Red and the Wizard of Westwood would be there, and I would but Coach Summitt, but then again what do I know.
