McDyess to sign with Spurs

Coveted free agent Antonio McDyess(notes) has decided to sign with the San Antonio Spurs, a league source told Yahoo! Sports on Wednesday afternoon.

McDyess, 34, will sign a two-year deal at the mid-level exception for $11.7 million. It is believed there is a partial guarantee on a third season.

McDyess’ decision had come down to the Spurs, Detroit Pistons and Cleveland Cavaliers.

Good pickup for the Spurs. They were going after Sheed or McDyess. His age isnt a factor, he's there mainly for boards and as a defender which he's solid at both.  Guess that will put to rest the Big Baby rumors.

doesnt really matter with a player like McDyess.  He's been pretty consistent his entire career and is there mainly as a complimentary player down low to Duncan. Only there to clean up on the boards and defend another bigman. Honestly, McDeyss has been one of the better defenders against Duncan Ive seen during his career. Camby also. I wouldnt want to pick up an older perimeter player so much. But at the 4 spot, his age wont be a factor.  Not to mention, DeJuan Blair will probably be getting some good PT throughout the season.

i dunno, man, i think age and fatigue will play a factor in the spurs success...i was thinkin theyd go for some younger players this off-season, but they seem to be headed for the same fate as last season. lets see, though.

the thing is, I think they are stock-piling bigs if possible so that somebody like McDyess doesnt need to play 40 minutes a game.  DeJuan Blair should get time, they also signed Marcus Haislip who's been playing over in Spain the last couple years. Not sure what to expect from him yet, but he was a first round pick when he entered the league. We'll see if his game has gotten better, but at worst, he's another 6'10" guy to help out.
