The best pitcher you have seen in your life and you want him on roids, yea you're a baseball fan  ::)

when was Greg Maddux on steroids??  ???

Pedro in 99 & 2000 are two best seasons by a pitcher ever.  And his stretch from 97-2003 is one of the greatest stretches by a starting pitcher ever.  I put Maddux right behing Pedro though.  People forget how godly Maddux was in the 90's.

walter johnson 1912 and 1913 are better :D

I've watched Pedro and Maddux, never had a chance to watch Walter.  Actually one of those saberheads did a study on the best pitching seasons ever and took into consideration the times, park factor, all that good shit and Pedro's 99 and 2000 were the top two seasons by a pitcher ever followed by Maddux in 94 or 95.  If I can find the article I'll post it.

lets take the best 10 years of the two:

maddux (1991-2000):  2.50 ERA, 180-82 record, 2,407 innings, 1,810 K, 1.031 whip, 167 ERA+

pedro: (1995-2004): 2.67 ERA, 161-65 record, 2,036.1 innings, 2,384 K, 1.012 whip, 173 ERA+

ill take the cat who throws 360+ innings more  (over ten years, thats 36 more IP a year...damn)

As good as Pedro was, he was never given the strike zone Maddux was given.  Maddux consistently was given calls 6 inches off either side of the plate.  And Pedro's best seasons were during the height of the steroid era, in the AL, in one of the better hitters parks in baseball.

Maddux does not get the credit he deserves for those two seasons.  The only thing I can think is he never had stuff that makes you go  :o like Pedro or Randy Johnson.  Maddux was like wait hold up how did this guy just pitch a complete game 3 hitter on 85 pitches.

In Walter Johnson's 1913 season, he led the league in:

Wins, W-L%, shutouts, CG, innings, StrikeOuts, ERA, ERA+, Total Baseball's RATIO, Opponents BA, Opponents on-base ave., pitching runs+, wins shares, total pitching wins, fewest hits/g, fewest BB/g, SO/g, Total Baseball's starter runs, adjusted starter runs, total pitcher index.

want to see a list of Best seasons from some stat-geek at Baseball-fever.com?  obviously he's only taking stats into the equation, not huge moments or the impact the player had on his team or any intangible shit etc. etc.   just the player, and how much they dominated the league:

Christy Mathewson (1908) - 32.6
Pete Alexander (1915) - 31.9
Silver King (1890) - 31.7
Tim Keefe (1883) - 30.3
Larry Baldwin (1886) - 29.5
Fergie Jenkins (1970) - 29.0
Walter Johnson (1912) - 28.5
Eddie Cicotte (1917) - 28.5
Toad Ramsey (1885) - 28.4
Pedro Martinez (2000) - 28.3
Walter Johnson (1913) - 28.0

John Clarkson (1887) - 27.5
Rube Waddell (1905) - 27.4
Carl Hubbell (1936) - 27.3
Sandy Koufax (1963) - 27.2
Christy Mathewson (1905) - 27.1
John Clarkson (1889) - 27.1
Charlie Buffinton (1888) - 27.0
Ron Guidry (1978) - 26.8
Jack Chesbro (1904) - 26.8

i just wish i knew how that motherfucker even did his stats....how you finna leave Maddux off the list totally?  must be a lame system lol.

In Baseball Magazine October 1913 they have an oustanding article that tries to answer that very same question. At some point I would like to post that article on the site because it is fascinating stuff.

They took measurements of the arm length, arm dimensions, height and weight of all of the top pitchers and tried to make some sense as to why big muscular guys like Jean Duboc were not power pitchers while a lanky, sinewy pitcher like Johnson had tremendous speed.

What they found is that Johnson had a reach of 78 1/2 inches. He had one of the largest arm spans of any of the pitchers that they measured - although a couple like Cy Falkenberg had a reach of 79 1/2 inches. Typically you will find that your average man will have a reach equal to his height. So you would expect that Johnson's reach would be about 73 inches.

What they also found was that Johnson had the longest arms of anyone that they measured - 34 inches. The 6'5" Falkenberg had an arm length of 33 inches. Carl Weilman was over 6'6" and had a wingspan of "only" 75 inches and an arm length of 31 1/2 inches.

Johnson's arm dimensions are as follows: 7 1/8 inch wrist, 12 12/2 inch forearm and 12 1/2 inch biceps.

So you had a man with extraordinary long arms and an arm like a whip. If you watch old movies of him pitch, that's exactly what it looks like.

There are some great pictures in the article. I am going to send them to Bill and maybe he can post them. They show Johnson showing off his reach. His arms look like a whip.

also, for those who think they couldn't throw hard in the old days:

In a Washington Post article in 1929 the writer states that Bill Tilden's serve was timed at 85 MPH by the Bureau of Standards and that Walter Johnson was timed at 113 MPH by the Bureau of Standards. The same article states that a ball was measured at 75 MPH off the bat of Babe Ruth.

&

In an article by Shirley Povich in 1937 it claims that Walter Johnson was timed at more than 100 MPH.

could be a good move, but could be a disaster. :P
i dont get this move but it cant be that bad, at worse we all find out that pedro is really done and thats that, phils will lose like 2 mill, big deal, im still crossing fingers for another big pitcher move, halladay!!!

true, but i could be a disaster for him i guess lol.

I hope for Pedro's sake he can still be productive, it's sad thinking about how good the guy used to be.

it's because he was on the roids, he would have blown without them.

The best pitcher you have seen in your life and you want him on roids, yea you're a baseball fan  ::)

If he was a Yankee you would be sucking him off.

LOL, you're the one who posted the list of the 104 players who were on steriods & he was on the list; so basically, you should just delete that thread if you don't "want to believe it's true".

you might as well just made up you're own 104 names lol.

and if he was a Yankee you would be the one saying he was on steriods LMAO.

i also like how you just make up constant scenario after scenario saying "if he was a Yankee", "well if it involved the Yankees"; leave the Yankees out of shit & maybe you wouldn't have to say "why do you always bring the Mets up?"

Actually I got that list from another board and when it turns out the list was fake I asked the jew mod to lock the thread you fucking moron.  You're entire logic makes no fuckin sense sometimes.  And it's easy for me to say if he was a Yankee b/c it's true.  You're a Yankee fan not a baseball fan.  And where have I ever said I hope Jeter and Posada are on the juice.  Where have I said I hope Mo is on the juice ?  I hate the Yanks but I hope Mo is clean b/c he is the greatest closer of all time and I go to watch him even though I hate him with a passion.  You on the other hand put the Yanks before baseball.  Pedro in 99 and 2000 is the best pitching performance we have ever bared witness too and you want that tainted.  You aren't a Baseball fan.  Just admit if Pedro was a Yank you wouldn't even think about linking Pedro to PED's

sorry for being a fan LOL.

sorry i don't rule out my team before the season even starts, sorry for that.

also, sorry for not checking that thread again; but anyone with half a brain (just half) would understand what i was just saying lol.

you can say what you want; but it just comes with being a fan. if Pedro was a Yankee from the start, maybe i wouldn't but he was a Redsox & then a Met.

it's just part of being a fan, i naturally hate the Sox & Mets.

i am PROUD as fuck to be a Yankee fan first baseball fan second; but i feel bad for you that you are a baseball fan first & a fan of nothing second; i cannot take you as a serious Met fan.

you show no pride whatsoever, play things by the book of baseball before the book of fanhood.

i honestly feel bad for Wykid or SPICE if they don't put the Dodgers & Giants before baseball; it's pathetic not to.

but HONESTLY, the majority of things i would not be a biased ass Yankee fan, ask me who is going to win the WS, i am going to be an average fan (IN THE RIGHT POSITION MIND YOU) to say the Yanks, just like WyKiD would say the Dodgers & SPICE would say the Giants; but you just want to pick on the Yankee fan lol.

First of all lets get one thing straight... Dont ever question my fucking fandom you piece of shit.  You keep believing the morons over at ESPN who watch maybe 30 seconds of each Met game and I'll judge with my own eyes.. eyes that watched around 140-150 games last season one way or another. and knew from the get go the team wasn't good.  And I even predicted JJ Putz injury you fucking moron.  Don't ever question my fucking fandom again you scum bag.  It's easy to criticize someone else when you're a front runner.  Until you know the heartbreak of being a Met don't ever question my affiliation towards the Mets.  Because lets get one thing fucking straight, I am a bigger Met fan than you are a Yanks fan.  In 06 I dropped out of college b/c classes interfered w/ the playoffs.  And Spice wouldn't predict the Giants to win the WS if the Giants aren't good and I'm pretty sure he didn't.... moron.  This calls for a spin off thread.

don't say the things you do & maybe i wouldn't question it lmao. you don't seem to understand the art of fandom, you know, rooting against your rivals. ;)

Pedro threw my 80 year old bench coach face first on to the floor & because i don't like him & hope he is on steriods that makes me "not a baseball fan".

you didn't seem "too upset" or disappointed when Clemens got exposed. :P

LOL, i was a Yankee fan when Donnie Baseball was playing first base, don't call me a front runner lol.

& how does you being a moron & dropping out of classes to watch the playoffs make you a bigger fan? you don't have to answer that, you can be the "bigger fan", we would never come to a conclusion anyway, so fuck it; it's your title champ. ;)

btw, i heard Reyes was running or something & re-hurt or his hammy still hurt; correct me if i'm wrong though because i don't want a paragraph of how "i am fucking retarded" lol; but i didn't know what i was talking about with that injury, did i? :P

LOL, where did i say career ending? i said it was going to effect his career & he'll be on the DL again & again. ;)

ask WyKiD the same question lol, he has said time & time again the Dodgers are going to win the WS, but he is justified?

you clearly just go after me because i am what you hate, a Yankees fan; if i was a Cubs fan you wouldn't have HALF the hate you show.

*waits for some bullshit response on how WyKiD is justified to PREACH the Dodgers & act like they are the greatest team in baseball history* (btw, no offense to WyKiD at all here, i have ZERO problem with you being a die-heart fan; i encourage it) ;)

yeah, but you called me "not a baseball fan" because i HATE Pedro & hope he gets exposed; MEANWHILE, that's the ENTIRE part of being a fan, you would sing & dance in the rain if it came out all the Yankees on late 90's team was on steroids; if you didn't catch a cold already from finding out A-Rod was on the juice.

you naturally hate the Yankees & wish the absolute worst for them, while i naturally hate the Redsox & definately Pedro bitchass Martinez.

do i wish for Pujols to get exposed on the roids? absolutely not, just the players i don't like; the David Ortiz's & Perdo Martinez's & Mike Piazza's of the world. :)

Pedro never threw your 80 year old bench coach down... Zimmer wasn't 80 and Pedro didn't throw him down.  You're still a fucking idiot for thinking a set back in Reyes's rehab is the end of his career.  Are you a doctor ?  No you're not so shut the fuck up you fucking moron.  You are a front runner b/c you care more about the Yanks than the sport of baseball while majority of baseball fans no matter how much they love there team loves the sport more b/c its the game that keeps them interested in there team shit for brains.  And what things have I said that question how I am a Met fan, that I didn't think my team was good you fucking moron ?  Because I am smart enough not to listen to ESPN lmfao.

Yes wykid is 100 % justified in picking the Dodgers to win the WS.  I picked them to make it to the World Series and lose to the BoSox.  The thing is the Dodgers have a good all around team.  I broke down why the Mets weren't that good and you still won't believe it because you are a fucking moron.  Let me guess, you still listen to the morons at ESPN ?  Tell me shit for brains, how come the jerk offs at ESPN know more about my team when they watch about 30 seconds of each game over a fan that has watches majority of each game ?  And while I do wish the worst for the Yanks I never wished them to be on steroids, and no I wouldn't dance in the streets and I would hate to see that BECAUSE IT HURTS THE GAME YOU FUCKING MORON.  But you don't love the game, all you care about is the Yanks.  I was hoping Arod was clean before everything came out.  I even said I hope guys like Jeter, Posada, and Mo are clean as much as I hate them.  But you ignore that you fucking moron.  Please maybe you need to stop discussing baseball.

^LOL, ohhhhhh, so YOU picked them; it's all good then. what was i thinking?

honestly, tell me when you take Harold Reynolds job; i have never seen you be wrong or admit to being wrong with a baseball related topic, surprise, surprise; this entire forum is right 110% of the time lmao.

i know the Mets suck now, but at full form; they are a contender for the NL, but they need some more arms.

sorry, i was just making an assumption about the "dancing in the rain" shit, but for some reason i recall someone on this forum just assuming shit about me; i thought it was a website-wide thing. ;)

anyway, you can act like i don't know the slightest thing about what i discuss, that's fine; doesn't bother me in the slightest; i know if i rooted for the Orioles you & me would get along just fine lol.

P.S. - you can just ignore what i say, if that isn't too hard of a concept to understand.

im sorry...but saying you "think" the dodgers will make it to the WS and loose to the sox is just ridiculous.

the dodgers will win, its fact.  i been to the future, i seen it with my own eyes!  lol

for real tho..unless the dodgers pick up a solid starter whos name isnt halladay (no way we're giving up kershaw), we gonna struggle in the playoffs.   we also need bullpen help.  if we dont fill one of those needs, my expectations for october will drop.

Fuck this belief that the Dodgers have weak pitching in the starting rotation and bullpen and need to desperately improve to win it all.  They have one of the best ERA's in the entire league, that doesn't just happen like that.  It's not like if the Dodgers are going to be only team to not have lights out pitchers during the playoffs.  That's basically everybody.  And then, you don't even know how some pitchers perform in the playoffs anyway.  Sometimes crappy pitchers pull off amazing games and aces pull off horrible games.  It happens.

i never said it was weak, but we do need a started that goes deep into games.  out of all the starters we have, only bills consistently makes it to the 7th.  kershaw is starting to get there, but how much stamina will he have left in october?  same goes for belesario and troncoso.  this year they will pitch more than they ever have.  theres no telling how they will pitch later on this season, let alone in october.  so whats wrong with improving out team with an innings eater and/or a good relief pitcher?
