Sasha Vujacic cut from Slovenian National team...

Vujacic off national team

August 24th, 2009, 11:48 am posted by JANIS CARR, OCREGISTER.COM

Let’s see. You play for the defending NBA champions. You have two more years existing on a three-year deal the Lakers gave you because they thought you were worth it.

You averaged 5.8 points and 1.4 assists off the bench. Sure it was down from a year ago, but still you contributed to the Lakers’ championship run.

But you’re not good enough to play for the Slovenian National Team?

That’s the predictament Sasha Vujacic is in today after being cut from the Slovenian National Team, days before the European Champinships are set to begin. sasha1

Maybe he sore knee was hindering his play. After all Vujacic did miss some exhibitions because of the knee injury.

But Pau Gasol got hurt and Spain didn’t cut him. Tony Parker also injured himself and France still has him on the roster.

Maybe Slovenia is deep enough without Vujacic. Maybe Vujacic didn’t fit into their scheme. Maybe Vujacic wasn’t good enough.

Nah. Well…

LOL....sasha became such a fuckin slouch after getting that contract :grumpy:

"Sasa Vujacic and everyone in the national team has done everything possible so that Sasa could return and play at the EuroBasket," said Slovenia coach Jure Zdovc. "But his injury made his effort useless.

"He hasn't had time to adapt to our style of play. I want to thank the player for his effort and wish him a speedy recovery from his injury."

it's a little questionable, cuz gasol and tony parker are both injured, but both still haven't been cut from the team...maybe sasha asked to be cut?

Yea thats what I was thinkin' but after those 3 games....dumb fouls, obvious goaltendings, turnovers. i know he's not a scorer, but damn...anyway I still got mad respect for that man. Always friendly and what a journey to the nba.

Spain still has a 24-men roster, so they haven't started cutting players yet. They'll reduce it to 12 within august, tho, so we will see if Gasol (Pau) will be in the roster or not. Talking about his injury, anyway, he got injured on August 11, and they said he was gonna miss 3 weeks. And the competiton starts on September 7. So he's still in time to recover from the injury and play for his team, so there's really no reason to cut him now. As for Parker, France still didn't qualify for the Tournament, lol, so they still don't know if they'll play Eurobasket. That's why they are not thinking yet about a roster. Plus Parker is playing for them, he recovered from his injury. I think he has a game tonight or tomorrow, even tho he'll start from the bench. So even in his case there's no reason to cut him cause theresn't a final roster yet. As for Slovenia, they reduced the roster to 14 men already, and Sasha was one of the guys who got dropped (cause he was still partially injured and out of form).

Tomorrow vs Belgium, I will be there and 30/9 @ France. The winner gets the last ticket for the Tournament in Polen I believe...
