Last week Raptalk.Net acknowledged two major west coast releases by dropping a Warren G "In the Studio" interview feature for his new "G-Files" album while making sure that all www.raptalk.net readers realized that Mack 10 dropped his "Soft White" album on the same day. In order to properly celebrate the release of one of the west coast's most decorated super stars, we also hooked up with Mack 10 for an exclusive interview.

Mack 10 takes us through "Soft White" in this interview, also speaking on his upcoming Glasses Malone collaborative effort, and his next solo album, tentatively titled "2000-1-0" which he plans on releasing next year.

Raptalk.Net: We’re here with Mack 10 on www.raptalk.net. His new album “Soft White” is in stores right now. We’re gonna’ start it off by having you break down the “Big Balla” track with Glasses Malone and Birdman.

Mack 10: The “Big Balla” track, I got a version with Red Café on it as well. Really “Big Balla” is self explanatory; “when I grow up I wanna’ be a big baller” and doing everything it takes to be one. I’m just having fun and the name of my album is “Soft White” so you know what it is.

Raptalk.Net: Speaking of the Red Café version, how come that version didn’t make the album and the one with Birdman did?

Mack 10: Because we did a video to the one with Birdman. That’s why I put that on there. I still got the Red Café version on me. I’ll probably put it on something else.

Raptalk.Net: Next up we have “So Sharp” with Lil Wayne, Rick Ross and Jazze Pha on the hook.

Mack 10: That’s what I am. I got the hottest cars and the flyest hoes. I pull up in the whip with the matching outfit because I’m so sharp (laughs). “So Sharp” was a fun record. Me, [Rick] Ross and [Lil Wayne] Weezy, and Jazze [Pha] did the hook. We were just having fun.

Raptalk.Net: I imagine the reason this one made it over the version with Jim Jones is because you shot a video to it as well?

Mack 10: Yeah, exactly.

Raptalk.Net: “Hoo-Bangin’ II” featuring Glasses Malone.

Mack 10: It is what it is with that song. “Hoo-Bangin’ II” is self explanatory. Is it on G? You know it’s on Mack. We’re riding together. I and G [Malone] are cronies on that one. That’s what it was.

Raptalk.Net: Tell us what you liked about Glasses Malone that made you want to sign him and feature him heavily on the new album?

Mack 10: Glasses is authentic. He reminds me a lot of myself when I first came in the game. You can tell everything I was doing was real; it was authentic.

Raptalk.Net: I see the comparisons even in his rhymes; he sort of sounds like a young Mack 10 to me.

Mack 10: Yeah. It’s all good (laughs). He isn’t the only one that sounds like a young Mack 10 with his rhymes.

Raptalk.Net: In terms of this track, how would you compare it to “Hoo-Bangin” the original?

Mack 10: This one is right now; it’s 2009. They were both reckless but this one is more reckless.

Raptalk.Net: We have Fred Wreck on the boards for “Mirror Mirror”

Mack 10: Fred Wreck is the man. I can’t say enough about Fred Wreck. He is one of the best producers of all time on the west coast. Fred [Wreck] had to bless the album. He did the biggest joint for Westside Connection which was “Gangsta Nation” on the last record. Fred [Wreck] is the man.

Raptalk.Net: Speaking of Fred Wreck being a west coast legend which I agree with, he doesn’t seem to do a whole lot these days. How was it that you got at him for a beat on this album?

Mack 10: He only comes out every now and then; it’s the same way with Dr. Dre. You don’t hear a Dr. Dre beat every day. Fred Wreck of course came from that crew.

Raptalk.Net: How do you feel about this track overall?

Mack 10: I love this record. I got a chance to pull everything out through my ink pen on that one. It’s all good. I got a chance to get a couple of things off my chest on this song. I love that record.

Raptalk.Net: Next up is “Hood Famous” with J. Holiday, the second single.

Mack 10: “Hood Famous” is a great record. It’s a real radio, club hit. J. Holiday came through and just did his thing on there. Nobody else could have done it like him.

Raptalk.Net: Is a video going to be shot for this record?

Mack 10: It’s already shot.

Raptalk.Net: When can the fans expect that to debut?

Mack 10: It’ll be up in about a week or two. “Mirror Mirror” has a video that will be up next week.

Raptalk.Net: That video is already all over the internet.

Mack 10: I mean about it being on MTV and BET. It’s being serviced to those stations in about a week.

Raptalk.Net: Next up is vintage Mack 10 hooking up with a soulful singer, touching on some real topics on “its Your Life” with Anthony Hamilton.

Mack 10: That’s a good one right there. The “It’s Your Life” record is one of the best songs I ever wrote. I like writing these kinds of records. That’s actually fun for me; and it’s easy to me writing these kinds of records. That’s real easy. I’m a good writer. That record was nothing to write. This record is one of my favorite records.

Raptalk.Net: It’s funny that you say this type of record is easy for you to write. With it being more of a reality record, a lot of artists has difficult times writing these records and enjoy writing stuff like “Big Balla” or “So Sharp” because that’s easier for them. Why would you say writing this type of record is easier for you?

Mack 10: Because I’m a good writer. I’m not one dimensional. There are a lot of one dimensional writers and rappers that find this hard for them to do. It’s so out of there element, that they can’t do it. If I wanted to do a whole record with that kind of shit, I could.

Raptalk.Net: Where do you think this song stands in your “meaningful” discography for the lack of a better word? You’ve had other records similar to this such as “The Testimony” on the last album, “Money’s Just a Touch Away” with Gerald Levert and so on.

Mack 10: Well this is definitely one of those kinds of records. You hear this song and say man, Mack 10 did it on this one. I can definitely do heartfelt greatest hits one day because I’m gonna’ keep doing more of these records.

Raptalk.Net: It’s back to the west coast streets on “Street Shit” with Glasses Malone and Butch Cassidy.

Mack 10: That’s just west coast ignorance. I love it. I love that street shit. I had to bring that for my west coast street fan base.

Raptalk.Net: Next up is “Clack Clack” with Akon and Red Café.

Mack 10: “Clack Clack” is one of those ones. This is a real hip-hop record. [DJ] Green Lantern produced the record. I just wanted to give everybody a different feel and do a well rounded hip-hop record. It’s on some club, violence type shit. I was just trying to do a hip-hop record. This is a good album and I wanted it sound reckless a little bit and sound like me and Red [Café] are talking on some real shit, with [Akon} ‘Kon on the hook (laughs).

Raptalk.Net: Next up is my personal favorite record on the album, a real smooth one called “Pushing.”

Mack 10: You’re not the only one that that’s your favorite because “Pushing” is really a Mack 10 record. That’s a Mack 10 record. That’s one of those records that makes you say that’s Mack 10 for sure; like 100%, vintage Mack 10 record. “Pushing” is one of my favorites too. As a matter of fact, the producer that did “Pushing” is Young Tre, and he’s been around a long time.

Raptalk.Net: Who is the singer on the hook?

Mack 10: That is Young Tre. Tre and the girl on there is Traci; that’s the same girl that is on “Mirror Mirror.”  That’s the same girl from “Backyard Boogie”, “Only In California”; the list goes on about the shit that that Traci has done.

Raptalk.Net: Out of curiosity, is her last name Nelson?

Mack 10: Yeah, that’s her, Traci Nelson.

Raptalk.Net: She’s a legendary background west coast vocalist.

Mack 10: Oh yeah. She’s done shit for [Dr.] Dre, everybody.

Raptalk.Net: The next record keeps it going with the smooth vibe on “Tonight.”

Mack 10: That’s one of my favorite records right there.

Raptalk.Net: We have Mack 10 singing on the hook here!

Mack 10: That isn’t me singing on the hook. Everybody thinks that’s me on the hook, but it isn’t!

Raptalk.Net: Who is that?

Mack 10: That’s my homie [inaudible] signing on there. That’s me talking all that shit on there though.

Raptalk.Net: It really sounds like you.

Mack 10: Yeah, everybody is saying that to me (laughs).

Raptalk.Net: Next up is “Dedication”

Mack 10: “Dedication” was important for me to do because I have a lot of homies that are locked up and I just want them to know that they’re not forgotten.

Raptalk.Net: Is part of that showing them that your grounded?

Mack 10: Well rounded and well grounded.

Raptalk.Net: He’s even rapping in the interview folks (laughs).

Mack 10: (Laughs) believe that.

Raptalk.Net: A lot of west coast heads realized you said near the end of the record “LBC Tray Deee.” That was big.

Mack 10: I shouted out Tray Deee because that’s one of my partners. It doesn’t matter Tray Deee is locked up because we haven’t forgotten about him. Believe he is a legendary west coast artist.

Raptalk.Net: Next up is the final record on the album called “Dope Boy.”

Mack 10: That’s just a rap record. I was just having fun. This fits in with the “Soft White” theme. The track went in and I went off. It’s all good. “Dope Boy” was a good record; it’s a rap record.

Raptalk.Net: You mentioned you won’t take a long hiatus again.

Mack 10: I’ll be back in January or February. I have a new Mack 10 album coming next year called “2000-1-0.”

Raptalk.Net: You plan on dropping that in January or February?

Mack 10: Somewhere around the end of the first quarter. I’m trying to figure out if we should put that one out first, or the Mack [10] and [Glasses] Malone album.

Raptalk.Net: What’s the status of that project?

Mack 10: Mack and Malone is almost finished as well; it’s called “Money Music.”

Raptalk.Net: So that record is almost done, and is “2000-1-0” done as well?

Mack 10: That one is almost done as well. There both about at the same place.

Raptalk.Net: Will “2000-1-0” be coming out through Fontana/Universal just like “Soft White” did?

Mack 10: Yeah, definitely.

He went from a full blown Westcoast vet to becoming more mainstream, Like Mack said in a diffrent interview times have changed and you gota stay curent...Not a bad album after a few lisens, Probablly my least favorite album by 1-0 but a solid interveiw...Man I wish Cube and Mack would squash there beef so we can ssee another WSC album...Wish you would of went into more detail about Mack and Malone albun and his new one thats almost done. I really appreciate that bro! The dream has come true indeed   Thanks on the interview props. The album is cool imo. It has grown on me with each listen. The only tracks I dislike are Dope Boy & Clack Clack. Pushin, Mirror Mirror and It's Your Life are my top 3 records off it
