The Los Angeles Lakers made a mistake by signing Ron Artest, and Artest’s presence on the team has opened up the Western Conference to other contenders, Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban told Dallas' ESPN 103.3, as reported by ESPNDallas.com.

"I tell you what, now that they've got Ron Artest, I couldn't think of anything better," Cuban told the radio station.

"If you would have said, what one player -- and I'll get killed over this -- what one player would you like to see on the Lakers? Ron Artest,” Cuban continued.

"Could you imagine? Ron Artest has got the ball, and Kobe's standing there, 'Throw me the ball.' Thank you, Ron Artest," he added.

The Mavericks' road opener is against the Lakers on Oct. 30.

lakers shoulda never traded shaq...then they'd have like 6 rings this decade instead of 4 (well 3 this decade, 4 including 1999-00)

^^^ Yeah but the point mark cuban's trying to make isn't that Ron Artest won't preform in L.A. or he won't put up Stats. It's that his selfishness on offense will hurt the rest of the team.  Artest is known as a bit of a vacuum so he'll have to curb that a bit.

 I still feel Ariza is the better fit for the lakers although there is no denying Artest is more Talented. Artest will definitely be more useful than Ariza if any of top players on the lakers get injured for extend  periods though.

We shall see, fact is that he wants to win a championship so I think he is going to go with the flow of the team and play under control.
