Quote from: Chamillitary Click on October 17, 2009, 09:12:17 AMagain, i watched a game yesterday & you run at times, but when the balls not near you, you basically stand still.when the ball is on the other side of the field, the defenders & goalie can go play duck, duck, GOOSE for like 10 minutes, lmao.then when the ball comes back & everybody follows the whole defense is just standing around the goal, with the exception of a few who are guarding people.i'm not trying to knock Soccer, as like fat, out of shape people can play, but the whole "it's constant running thing" is just not true.i can understand the heavy defense for your sport, but these are just observations.Well they are poor observations, you wrer watching a young players match where techically they are not as good as payed professionals so the quality is not gonna be that high. Watch an English Premier league match and see what I am talking about.

lol, no i'm not.sure, you have to be athletic.but i mean, it isn't as much running as it is made out to be.you sprint for the ball occasionally, you dribble the ball for a brief moment & then when you don't have the ball you're standing still at times lol.plenty of breaks to play a full 90 minutes, without much of a problem.you without a doubt, no questions asked run A LOT more in Basketball, with the time you get when you sit on the bench than playing Soccer.
^i'm not questioning why people play Soccer or that it's "easy" in any way.i just feel there is a lot of down time during the 90 mintues; the man with the ball & the guy gaurding him are running & guys on offense are jogging into position & the defenders are following.i don't expect any Soccer fan to admit to this, because why make a poor sport look any worse?

I don't understand why you keep talking about, cause you obviously don't know shit about the sport.

C'mon Chamill. It's not my #1 sport (top 3)..But it's the most popular sport in the world and whatever excuse u can come up with for that, it doesn't make it not a FACT.
Baseball: Japan > America. U can also argue Cuba, South Korea & Venezuela > AmericaHockey: Canada > Russia > USABasketball - USA doesn't dominate like they used to anymore. Argentina, Italy & Spain really compete with them.
...midfielders were measured as the Premiership’s hardest-working players, with right midfielders, such as Gerrard, the most energetic of all. The average ground covered by those in this position, 11.49km per game (7 miles) was not too far short of the figures for Gerrard. Centre-backs did the least running but even they averaged a fraction under 10km per match. Right midfielders also did the most fast running, an average of 147 heart-thumping “high intensity” bursts per match and covering 310m flat out.The average recovery time Premiership midfielders enjoy between “high-intensity activities” in games is 40 seconds“high-intensity activities” — runs made by players at three-quarters of sprint pace or faster — have increased from 627 per team per match in 2002-03 to 1,209 in 2005-06, and the ground covered by players while sprinting has increased by 40% over four years. A sprint is classed as a run made at quicker than seven metres per second, equivalent to running 100m in a sharp 14 seconds. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/football/article722711.ece
there is not that much of a need for super stamina/athleticism
