Why are rappers afraid to name names?
« on: October 19, 2009, 12:56:30 PM »
There are so many rappers who have talked about the state of hip hop and how its declining. Barely any of them will name names. Ice T called out Soulja Boy and that was it. What was funny is that when they were asked about it, most rappers either didn't take a side or defended Soulja Boy's right to make music. You look at a group like Slaughterhouse who say they are bringing real hip hop back. I can guarantee you not one of these cats will ever call out the people bringing the fake hip hop. I remember during the 90s there were beefs right and left. Rappers were calling each other trash just because of beef, even though they didn't mean it. But now its like they're scared to point out the actual whack rappers. wtf...

i don't know, i've heard people name drop guys over the record before.

HopSin called some names out;

"This new age of rappers? All they want to do is floss, why? Swearing they're the boss guy, thinking that they're all fly. You, Lil' Wayne, Soulja Boy, this Asher Roth guy. Normally I wouldn't mind, but this time I lost mine."

didn't 50 Cent call out Kanye for wearing rainbow colors & looking gay? still, not the music, but a start lol.

but i know what you mean, but i guess most rappers are trying to be "above" these rappers & sending a message, "these dudes aren't even worth my time".

real rappers should join together & jump on one huge 20 mintues long track & just diss everybody whose been fuckin' with the game.

but also, some guys don't because they are the means of selling. Game is fast to jump to Gucci, Wayne & Kanye if it will sell, same as Jay-Z, who claims to be done with generation.

even Soulja Boy has gained some connects after he proved he is going to sell.

it's like a sacrifice of money in their occupation if they go against the mainstream guys, who can sell records.

It aint like Soulja boy tries to be a 'real' rapper/artist, he makes music he thinks people his age will enjoy, shit to dance to, there aint nothing wrong with that.

There's something wrong with that when rappers are cosigning him who were anti-commercialism during the 90s.

Tbh I don't have a problem with Soulja boy that much cause he's just making dance tunes which has been around for ages with hip-hop. What I do have a problem is when people start claiming things like they are the GOAT, or greatest alive or king of the south when they are clearly not.

But nowadays there's not enough emphasis on who's got skills. Before wack/weak rappers would get called out for claiming they're dope when they couldn't rap. The fact so many rappers are cosigning crap like Wayne and Gucci shows how money hungry most rappers are these days.

because some rappers are hypocrites.

also, i think some don't mention names, due to the media.

They should at least stop complaining. The ones complaining about whack rap either need to actually point out the whack rappers or stop complaining about it. If there are no whack rappers and Soulja Boy is just "doing his thing", then why the fuck are you talking about hip hop being dead?

The smaller artists and up and coming artists don't want to burn any bridges. The successful guys know they sold out in one form or another in order to become successful. If they call out names they are being hypocritical.
