Howard Stern funny man, Artie Lange, tries to comit suicide, stabs himself...

Howard Stern's sharp-tongued sidekick Artie Lange stabbed himself nine times in the gut with a 13-inch Wolfgang Puck kitchen knife in a violent attempt to take his own life, police said.

Hoboken Police Detective Mark Competello said Lange's mother found him on the floor of his waterfront home on Saturday.

Competello said the 42-year-old comedian was unconscious but breathing after plunging the knife repeatedly into his abdominal area, the Associated Press reported. Lange was taken to Jersey City Medical Center.

Competello said doctors cleaned the stab wounds and operated, and that Lange has been released.

Earlier in the week, Stern spoke out about his troubled friend on his Sirius XM radio program, but didn't reveal the reason for Lange's emergency hospital visit.

"We all have our demons," Stern said, referring to Lange's past battles with addiction.

"Artie has given this show tremendous moments of great comedy. He's a tremendous contributor. He is a good man. Don't forget how great he is."

Stern, who has hosted the controversial radio program, "The Howard Stern Show," on Sirius since January 2006, also denied that Lange was quitting the show and being replaced by Jim Breuer.

Lange had been mysteriously absent from the radio talk show in the days prior to the company's holiday break.

Fucked up, but certainly not shocked.  I've listened to every Stern show for years now, Lange is really messed up.  I doubt he'll ever be back on the show.

yeah, i mean, he was lying out of his ass with when he was talking about going to therapy and actually enjoyed going.  i wonder how deep his lies really are.  im sure he'll make an appearance or two, if he recovers, but certainly not on a regular basis anymore.  the show is over in a year anyways, so who cares.  lol

if his mom hadnt showed up artie would be dead right now.

Yeah this sucks.  He's hella funny but got major issues.  I think he's been looking for a way to leave the show for a while now, and I think he went to an extreme to do it.  Dude needs to take it easy he burns his candle at both ends.
