Death Magnetic wasnt bad... it also wasnt a full return to glory (be it full blown or commercial). It had soem dope tracks on it though so cant hate I just hope if they do another it will keep improving and not slide back down to shitsville!

dude the music was great but I fucking HATED the mixing/mastering.

Seriously, as a professional sound editor/engineer this shit is unacceptable. The songs went hard but the audio quality bugs me.

No kidding, it was slightly improved mixing from St. Anger, which imho was the worst mixed Metallica album of all time.

I feel the same way.  I feel it was much better than their last several albums (especially "St. Anger"), but it also wasn't as good as their classic albums like "Ride the Lightning" "Master of Puppets" or "And Justice for All."

this album was fucking terrible, i mean all the parts were there, cool riffs etc, but the lyrics were cheesy and awfull, the songs were completely disjointed and it was generally just a mess. so metallica can still write riffs but they cant write a song anymore.

That pretty much describes how I felt about "St. Anger."  I thought the music on "St. Anger" sounded pretty good (much more like Metallica than "Load or "Re-Load") but I thought the lyrics for that album were terrible.  So, I don't know...maybe "Death Magnetic" mostly sounded like a big improvement to me because of how much I regard "St. Anger" as a low-point in their career.  I do think Hetfield's voice isn't what it once was.  I actually thought their lyrics, while not as cool as their early stuff, were much better than what  was on "St. Anger" though.
