Only thing Dre gave a shit about was buying the rights to The Chronic. I mean he should of actually did that during the auction. Snoop, well he hasn't had anything good to say about the label since he left.

Face it only 1 who wants it is a 40year old Jewish soccer mom who steals. =/

The Ultimate Box Set is the Wideawake/Death Row Records release that I have the least problems with.  It's not a perfect release, and I could have done without the first disc of "greatest hits," but I found it to be an overall improvement over their previous two releases.  But what I do find to be very stupid is their plans for the upcoming Kurupt release.  It's pointless, it won't make money, and in my opinion, it's a sign that they're not even trying anymore. I suppose we could all cross our fingers and hope that one day the company will land in the hands of more capable persons.  But I seriously doubt that will happen.  I'm not really a person who ordinarily believes in curses.  But the constant problems that have plagued this company has started to make me think twice.

How come? I take it you already own ->

Greatest Hits
Greatest Hits vol.2
Very Best of Death Row
15 Years on Death Row
Death Row: The Singles Collection
Death Row: The Soundtrack collection
Fellowship of The Great
Snoop Dogg's Greatest Hits, as well as all the Ron Winters ones such as:
The Chronicle
Tha Dogg
Tha prophet best of the works
Dr Dre's Greatest Hits
Death Row presents: A Hip Hop History
Death Row - Tha Party
Snoops Death Row Dayz
Dr Dre's Death Row Dayz
2Pacs Death Row Dayz
Snoop & Dre's from Compton to Long Beach CD's as well?? Because if not, I guess the first disc in this box set is pretty ultimate if you ask me  :-X

Lol.  The ones in bold are the ones I own.  I haven't actually purchased the "Greatest Hits" every single different way they've repackaged them.  But I feel like I've purchased them enough times.  I'm guessing you agree with that sentiment as well.

Zeus, u can wash the shirt all you want, still gonna be creased...its the "crease style" as in the shirt is designed to look creased.

Instead of releasing albums, I think that they should be in the selling masters business. They probably would make more money that way. Im sure theres a serious label out there that would buy masters and release these as a quality product. Im sure Ron Winters will be interested in that!!

Unless...the one thing we are overlooking is the fact that maybe the reason why Suge left all these albums in the vault all those years is that maybe they really weren't worth release?? I hope not cos the vault has been hyped up for years. Was looking forward to hearing it.

I 'regrettably' have them all including the 3 disc 2Pac set: The Sex, Soul & The Street, and the the ones I've put in bold are the only ones I ever play, or even bother about listening from time to time

did Dre and Snoop not have enough money to just buy death row?

Neither had the money personally, but could have easily got financed to purchase the catalog, maybe more so Dre than Snoop though. Dr Dre would like the rights to The Chronic just to own a part of his product, but he like DJ Quik, doesn't really look back, and want much to do with his earlier work. Snoop however is a different story, and would have, if could have! His current work is always judged by the Doggystyle release, and he always performs his earlier songs, and is sometimes most well known for his "Gin & Juice", and "Whats My Name" songs over anything else his profile

If I was to be the trustee, I would have allowed each main artist or their labels to purchase his/her own material. Dr Dre buy his for 3 million, Snoops for 3 million, Interscope for 2Pac's at 6 million, DPG at a million, and the remaining 6 million worth of material from the likes of Danny Boy, Michel'le, NINA, Crooked I, Petey Pablo, Jewel and so on be sold to a seperate company. This would have made releases a bit easier financially to be fully strengthened releases with no flaws, or major audio troubles and the lower end artists like Crooked I, Danny Boy releases to be released as solid albums to make good use of the larger talent out of the lower end artists for the company to purchase that bunch of material for the 6 million. Instead we have a full catalog purchased by "One" company subsequently who in hindsight if they f.... it up, may f.... up all the rest. At least with 4/5 different companies, the fans stand a better chance at gaining at least a few good solid high-quality releases

Well, Interscope already owns a stake in Pac's music. Why would they want to sell the assetts at a reduced rate just so the artists could have them? This assuming that most of these artists you mentioned could afford to buy their reels back and then have the money to properly release them.

hey, I'm happy that we are getting this old music released.

I understand where you are coming from, but you need to also look at it from a different perspective:

They bought the DR material for like $18million.  That is quite a substantial investment already...so they don't necessarily have much wiggle room for even more expenses on a project.  Plus, look at the sales so far.  The music industry is moving on, and money is just not made by selling cd's anymore.  Bottom line...DR was just not a good investment, at least not at that price.  So they have to do whatever they can to cut their losses.

if they drop an unreleased 2pac album without butchering the shit, and promote it with atleast 2 singles...they'll make some money back.  esp if they continue to do such a great job at keeping their releases from leaking early

Pac's life and 2pacalypse Now are the only Pac cd's that haven't been certified platinum ....one being a 1991 underground release and the other being a horrrrrible 2005 remix album

even loyal to the game sold a few million....

I didnt have any problem with the box set.I feel like I got my moneys worth. Some great tracks were included.Could it have been better?Sure, but its their best release to date.I think the real problem is they are releasing the tracks untouched regardless of quality. Its a fine line between mixing and remixing but Id rather they tried then leave the tracks as is.They should look at the history of the label and find who was mixing the songs at that time for each era of death row.Obviously your not going to get dre,but you could probably find most of the others.
