Ras Kass needs your help to put out next album

West Coast Hip Hop veteran Ras Kass has announced that he is the final stages of recording his still untitled upcoming LP.

Ras will be looking for help from his fans to put the album out. The studio time for the album has already been paid for from proceeds from his previous release The Quarterly. Kass will look to the fans for financial support to help produce the physical CDs of the album as well as 500 vinyl records.

With the help from fans of his music, the West Coast MC hopes to raise $3,800 in the next 2 months. Depending on the amount of money donated by each person, Ras Kass will give an incentive for the donation. Fans who donate $15 or more will receive a hard copy of the album, as well as their name published on Rass Kass’ website Savetheraskass.com.

Individuals who donate $1,000 or more will receive a limited edition set of lyrics to Nature of the Threat, handwritten by the rapper, a signed copy of the CD, a vinyl press of the new album, limited edition t-shirts, a phone call from Kass, a special producer credit on the album, as well as a shout out, and to top it off, for the fans who pledge a $1000 plus will get free entrance to any Ras Kass show this year.

As of this time, there is no official release  date for the untitled project, but Ras is hoping for a spring release.

I think that alot of people are getting this twisted.. this isnt an mixtape thats going to be available in stores... theres only going to be 1000 of these CDs.. people in other places seem to think that hes asking for money to record an album.. nope - the project is basically finished... - this basically is a way to preorder the album and to get your hands on some limited edition products... besides these limited edition CDs and Vinyls this project is only going to be available digitally.... this is a way to interact with the real fans

I suppose it takes a lot of guts and humility for someone like a rapper to try to reach out to his fans, but it is a little pathetic.  I don't think anyone really gives a shit about their name being published on some site that very few people will actually check (why not publish it on the album itself?).  And what if he doesn't collect enough money to press the album?  Is he going to mail people their money back?  Doubtful.

Maybe he should just put his shit on iTunes to cut back on the costs of the physical production of the CDs and vinyls themselves.

First off, if the project doesnt go through everyone keeps there money, thats part of how the kickstarter/amazon site works... the mixtape will be a paid download and will probably be on itunes.. also if a person pledges enough they will have their name listed under special thanks on the album

I actually think every artist will do this in the future.
Sales are getting lower (especially for underground artist) so the only way to get a budget is to let fans pay before release.
