E-40: "I Gave [Biggie] a Pass"

The feud made its rounds on the Internet after a reenactment of the incident surfaced on Notorious B.I.G.: Bigger than Life, the DVD. Now, E-40 was asked about this during a stop on Rude Jude and Lord Sear’s The All Out Show and he gave his side of the story.

“Biggie, back in the days, had said something in a magazine in Canada. He was talking about Spice 1. From a scale of 1-10, he would say, ‘Spice 1 [is] a 2. E-40 [is] a 0. I hate that dude.’ Like, what? Bruh, you ain’t ever even met me. Why you hate me? It ain’t nothin’. It’s nothing spectacular. The way it went down, he came down to Sacramento and just put it this way, I gave him a pass. We talked and after that some things went down. I gave him a pass.”

He then added that he didn’t want to go through all the details, however he did add a few more.

“At the end of the day, [he] talked highly about a motherfucker. I think that they had got him hella perkin’ out there. They was saying that some Canadian magazine was telling him to get hella perkin’. But, the truth serum come out when you drinking, you smell me? So, I don’t know if that was from the heart, what he said. Anyway, he twist[ed] that shit around later on. Like I said, we ain’t have no problems before he passed or none of that shit.”

40 confirmed that the two spoke and the meeting described in the DVD was accurate, to some extent. 

“I will tell you one part, though, that’s not true…I didn’t book the concert. It just so happened that niggas knew that I was upset about the situation. Some of my folks was out there and they got at him. They gave me the phone and I pow-wow’d with dude. Had to get him up out of there and told my dudes to back up like a sea crab. He went back to the hotel and got back safe. So, that’s how that shit went.

40 added that the two were on good terms after that and noted that Biggie wanted him as a guest on his final release before dying, Life After Death.

I always thought that the recounting of the story from the Bigger Than Life DVD (which was the same thing from that YouTube link) had a few flaws.  For example, that guy in the Yankees hat was talking about how he basically demanded that Biggie get to talk to E-40 before anything went down, which I don't really think happened.  In the VIBE biography of Biggie, it painted a much more gangsta picture of Biggie's car getting surrounded, and one of the guys handing Biggie a cell phone with E-40 already on the other line.

It was at the Source Awards (I think 2000) and Mac Minister got his ass whooped by 40. Mac Minister had been spouting off at the mouth around this time that he was responsible for all of E-40's slang. They ran into each other at the awards and Mac Minister, being the loudmouth idiot he is, was talking all this shit to 40. At first 40 ignored it but then he was pushed past the breaking point and Mac Minister's little crackhead ass was no match for somebody of 40's stature.

E-40 ended up writing a letter of apology to the Source for the incident. He also lost a lot of jewelery in the scuffle (Shit fell off him and random ppl picked it up).

This is the same Source Awards where DJ Quik was arrested while trying to break up a fight out on the red carpet. Also the same Source Awards where Death Row rushed the stage. I think E-40 might have even been rolling with some of the Death Row crew because of his affiliation with Mac Shawn. I've heard numerous times that there is video of Death Row rushing the stage but have yet to ever see it.

It would've been odd, though it likely wouldn't have happened, even though they squashed whatever problem they had.  Biggie made it clear that he didn't mean to say that he didn't like E-40 as an individual, it's just that he didn't feel his music at all.  So despite them not having any issues, it's not like Biggie is going to suddenly feel his shit and want him on a record.

I remember the rumor at the time being about some run-in between Napolean and Shyne.  Word around was that Napo was actually greeting Shyne by extending a handshake, but Shyne slapped his hand away, then Napo apparently swung at him.

Since corny YouTube videos of yourself holding guns doesn't pay the bills, Benzino will eventually have to put stuff up for sale, so it's not impossible.  Or maybe QD3 will buy the footage from him and release it on Beef XVII or whatever edition they're on at this point.
