Old west... New west... What about after new west?
« on: March 19, 2010, 08:35:45 AM »
 8) so recently the west is kinda beefing (cube vs. New west) the reason why is because some disrespect towards the vets and also  from some of the new west.  The real question I have is new west has been around close to 5 years now which to me is not really new... But anyways I know theirs fresh new talent grinding  on the coast after new west  but since there not "new west" it seems like new west is sort of doing what cube has done to new west. "new west or nothing"  Basically hated on!  Let's just keep it west coast and fuck it let talent speak for itself.
All you Suckas want to Diss the PACiFiC but you Buster Niggaz never get Specific!!

Well there's the jerk movement :P. Or the likes of Del Tha Funky Homosapien or Hop-Sin who don't really fall under either.

I support the New West but when you list up the rappers who've claimed they're a part of it next to the year they started buzzing, you'll see that it's more of a wave that happens every year only each one has a different line up.

There's a new movement coming called the "No West"

that's when the music industry changes so drastically that artists go into creative shock due to economic issues that were once on their side.
the lack of preparation for this occurence will drive many artists to revert to street ethics in an effort to try and gain leverage.
this new approach only places further distance between true success and the cliché quote "The West is Back."

The formula is simple:

Produce Quality Product >> RELEASE Quality Product >> Target CORE Audience = $ and Brand Awareness.

Artists' Lack of Quality + Artists' Lack of Unity + No Media Support + Generational Conflict + Fans who forget they are that = Today.

if the young cats just made good music there wouldn't be a problem.....the og's have proved they can hold down a song and an album on there "own".....Most of the new generation can't hold down a song by themselves.... 8)

I agree with Cube, Fuck New West a bit. I mean fucking damn the originals in hip-hop couldn't have as much exposure (Most acts were pretty much luck) as today's new west. The Internet changed the way that people can come up, Case and Point (god I gonna hate this) but Soulja Boy is proof of this. Mind you it's also showing how hip-hop/raps core elements have deteriorated, and how Mainstream truly doesn't give a damn about the core elements, but in the end it's exposure. I mean you go back to the 1980s/90s and chances are majority of these niggaz wouldn't have any play outside there own area. I mean Eminem was only primarily known in Detroit until Dr. Dre had gotten Involved, even N.W.A had been a lucky act, just because there album had something no one else at the time was putting out, the fact that Eazy had made his own label, and that some guy in the industry (Jerry) iwas willing to work with people from the street.

In the end N.W.A only got Radio play for the first time because of "Panic Zone" and sold out to that electrico hip-hop at that time. Today niggaz don't need to sellout. Today they can run everything avoiding the labels, and generate there own money. Every Technology you had at the studio you can get at home now. It's no longer like back in the day you needed to pay for studio time. Today's artist can build there own fanbase via mixtape, p2p sharing, the 1000s of hip-hop sites, and don't even need to PRESS a album today. Itunes, MP3 purchase today allows them to directly sell to the fans, avoiding labels taking income. If they're good they can get a strong underground (Crooked I for example) and eventually generate enough interest for themselves.

The fact some of these new niggaz want old niggaz 2 get em a pass iz bullshit.

Anyways, for me it goes sorta like a gang line up.

OGz (N.W.A, Ice T for example)
Captains (1990s rap mostly, 2pac, Snoop, Dpg)
Shot Collars (Post 1995 - 2000)
Big homie (2000 - 2005)
Baby Gangstas (2005 -2010)

Basically as u get older u get up there.

So basically this

Original West
Golden Age
Third Generation West
4th Generation West
New West

Original and Golden are not 1/2 generation because they've innovated the entire scene (Example:Original:N.W.A, Golden Age: The Chronic)

I mean Third Generation had some amazing shit, and 4th pretty much was a decrypted shit pile. New West brought some Revitalization.

The fact a lot of these niggaz don't drop albums is amazing. Even Local niggaz in Fresno have even pressed albums (Mind you it's still on a local scale, but they are still getting the music out there and still trying).

Still in the end, even if these niggaz don't drop albums it's not all that bad.

Crooked I hasn't dropped a pressed album, and he's passed being new west. He's still put on bangers.

The fact is niggaz don't need to press albums to be in the game. all they need 2 drop is hot 12 tracks, and we can make the album ourselves. The fact is the majority of these artist thrive off this new Technology. So why complain when we don't get a hardcopy???
