Strasburg the serious future?

my man, Stephen Strasburg has been LIGHTS OUT all spring so far.

it's a shame he won't be on the mound for the Nats opening day.

we could be looking at someone real special, future 300 game winner & countless Cy Young winner.

i know that's a lot of stock to put into a kid who threw some innings in Spring Training, but i got a feeling about this kid.

Putting him out there on opening day might be a bit too much.  Let him have 10 starts in AA, and if he's just even solid give him another ten starts in AAA.

i suppose that would be the "smart" move; but i mean, if the Nats have any hopes of the Wild Card (because they can't take the division from Philly) they need to get off to a hot start.

Even with Strasburg putting up great numbers, they won't be able to. Since they've invested so much money in him, that's even more reason to not put him out there right away.  If he's successful immediately, this guy is going to become expensive quick then he'll be gone once you have a better chance of becoming a good team.

This is what kind of bothers me about some of the smaller clubs.  Let's take a lot at the Royals, what the hell are they doing spending so much money on players like Guillen and Meche? That's $91 million dollars right there.  Spending money on risky established players on the cheap and spending money on the draft might be the way to go get out of the rotten place they're in.

All comes down to his health.  His stuff is obviously good enough, but can he stay healthy.  I just remember Mark Prior when he first came up.  Unbelievable stuff, little league college stats, and pretty much out of baseball now:(  I said the same thing you said about Strasburg then, and will never say it again no matter how good they look now.  But, with his arm, he has a chance to be something special.  I'm just hopeful he has a long career, over a spectacular one.
