2010 a rebirth of west coast rap?
« on: April 09, 2010, 04:50:43 AM »
damn... everywhere you go you get these dope news. It seems like 2010 is the reincarnation of west coast rap so far. I mean first we had a dope warm-up from Terrace Martin's free EP's which were more than delicious musically. And day after day there was more dopeness to come. E-40 dropping a great new album with some of his best lyrics for years (that's not questionable whether you like the beats or not) and great features. Brotha Lynch released a very dope record like going back to his roots. Then Kokane released his twilight zone single which is nuts, announces a new album for summer with ATL affiliation which makes it even more crazy.

And it goes on, Tha Chill announces a new record as well. Then MC Eiht comes round the corner announcing a new album coming on Premo's label with beats done by him as well, with a dope ass title. Suddenly we get another "breaking news" that DJ Quik is about to drop a duo-record with (OMG) Suga Free and a solo record as well. Then you got Cypress Hill coming out on Snoop's Priority records with a nice summertime single.

After that we will see two new Dogg Pound records, 100 Wayz is goin finally to be released on Priority as well. Kurupt's new record with nearly 100% terrace Martin production and a new single with Xzibit.

As if this wasn't enough Murs talks about releasing a set of 10 new albums with new and unreleased material from which the first one is a collabo with 9th Wonder again and it just sounds beautiful. Then there's a new Too Short interview where he is talking about a collabo album with E-40 (finally) and his own new solo record. And you think "wow cool, looks like it's going to be a nice year musically".

Then Dre announces there will be a first single for Detox featuring Jay-Z and you think about "damn, why is that?". And when you just reached the point to think of Detox like a compilation of famous east coast and south rappers, Ice Cube comes along and telling people to look out for him being on Detox and Dre lacing him a beat for his own new album which has a dope ass title as well and sounds like it's gonna crack yo system. And you get to know that Snoop and Game recorded shit as well.

Last but not least you got a battery of other new albums which may come out this year:
Spice 1, WC, Xzibit, Game, Nipsey Hussle, Damani and I dunno who I forgot, there are too many this year.

I don't know what y'all think about it, but I feel like it's a rebirth of west coast rap right now and I'm really looking forward to these records. I have been so pessimistic for the last years but everything this year sounded very promising.

look at the names of rappers we are looking forward too, it's like the early/mid 90's all over again.  Only Game is the new nigga people checking for from the west.  That's not a good sign

It's just repeat business. You take Dre dropping Detox out of the picture, it's the same people who have been releasing albums for the last 6 or so years. How can you call something a "rebirth" when it's just business as usual?
