Did Dr. Dre mix the Murder Was the Case album?

Cuz it sounds like it was mixed by him. Seriously, the sound quality on this album is just phenomenal, this really might be the Death Row team's best production effort... from Daz and Dre's production, to what sounds like Dre's mixing, to all of the live musicians on this  album... just damn.

As the story goes, this was the last Death Row release that Dre had his heart in and 100% cared about.  On Dogg Food, Suge rubbed him out of the scene and after that his foot was halfway out the door.  It's amazing how quickly it all went down, from 94 to 96, three years only.
"Detox" is a myth -- Bigfoot, Loch Ness Monster, Area 51, Iraq having WMD, Detox...you get it now?  It was invented by the Aftermath marketing department to maintain the fans' attention.  Notice how everytime a new Aftermath album is ready to come out, they always mention Detox is next up?  Because they are using the invention of "Detox" as a way to market other albums.  The sooner you realize that Detox is NOT REAL, the sooner you'll feel liberated.  Oh yeah, f.u. Aftermath for fooling us fans.

I'd say things started to get sour on this one. Between this project and Above The Rim, Dre's role was substantialy smaller. "Murder" seems to be where Suge's creative involvement really comes into play. Dre probably wasn't thinking about jumping ship yet but it was around this time that D.O.C., Dre's closest friend was on his way out, as well as RBX. This was where Suge was bringing in his own artists. Dre would end up working from his home stuido not too shortly after this.

Murder Was The Case OST (Original Version) (1994)

How did it get Started?

After the amazing success of The Chronic and Doggystyle, Death Row could do no wrong.  So they set out to make a short film based on Snoop's song, "Murder Was The Case" (the idea for the song came from a dream Snoop had).  The Dr. Dre directed film was only about 20 minutes long, so they bundled the vhs with rare interviews and performances.  The soundtrack was to feature songs used in the movie as well as some new exclusive songs.  It turns out we didn't get to hear the album as it was originally intended.

What Could it have been?

Tracks left off the Soundrack included Swoop G's "20 Dollars" (which later ended up on his own solo album), and Snoop's "Ni**a Named Dave".  If you look inside the Murder was the Case album booklet, you'll see "D.A.V.E. (Death Before Visualizing Eternity)".  If you've ever noticed this, and realized it made no sense, now you know why it's there.  Ni**a Named Dave's second verse later surfaced on Snoop's Midnight Love.

So What happened?

Originally, the soundtrack was to heavily feature Snoop and Tha Dogg Pound, with few other appearances.  It was a chance for artists like Nate Dogg and Tha Dogg Pound to release solo songs without having to wait for a full album of material.  It was Suge's decision to bring in some of his own ideas and artists (Young Soldierz, Danny Boy, DJ Quik).  The end result was by no means a bad album, but some great songs were left off as a result.

Ya Above the Rim & Murder Was The Case caused some difference of opinions between Dre & Suge. Suge wanted to be releasing more and more soundtracks and R&B while Dre was more on the album tip. Dre didn't contribute much at all to Above the Rim. Just Afro Puffs if I remember correctly.

There are so many classic tracks and records I'd lvoe to see leaked. Kurupt - I Dont bang No More (Why wasn't that on the latest WideAwake Kurupt release), That Sam Sneed, Rage, and amy CPO shit from that early - mid 90's era would be great

I always figured the reason Dre and Suge fell out was because Suge started fucking Michel'le after Dre got locked up. Oh the reason Dre was working from home was beacuse he was on house arrest.

I'm pretty sure the Suge-Michel'le thing didn't go down until Dre was on the way out. Bruce Williams mentions in his book that he felt she got with Suge as revenge for Dre dumping her. As for the working from home thing, it's been mentioned plenty places that between Dre getting shot, put in jail/house arrest, and the violent atmosphere at Can-Am, he was pretty much always working at his in-house studio once he was out of legal trouble.
