Boxed in "Jay Rock" "Nipsey Hustle"
« on: June 03, 2010, 10:59:02 AM »
I would agree that these guys are talented but they are boxing themeselves in with the type of music they are making. Too much gang bangin shoooting and shit in the music. These cats cant book shows without some drama popping off especially in LA. Nipsey is from one of the most hated hoods in LA. No promoter is gonna want to book you if there is a chance that the dam show can get shot up. Trust me these niggaz cant go nowhere in Cali and do a show without some drama. They need to chill every word out of they mouth is Blood cuzz Crip damu etc.. It wasnt like that with WC, Mack 10, Eazy, Snoop etc. Even though you knew where they was from they wasnt puttin it out there like that like look at me I am a gang member. This young generation feels liek they need to prove something but they need to look at the OG's and see how they did it. How the west was truly won.

i agree with they don't need to say it so much in songs, cause everybody know and know they keep it networth, just focus on making good music that everybody can vibe to,cause if it's a gang of blood talk piru this and that me and alot of equals i know ain't trying to hear that all day,and vice versa with nipsey, ain't no bloods or treys ain't gonna wanna hear that all day and will sleep on it, now if they just tell ill stories and keep it g without all the extras everybody will fucc with it yell

Ever since Game, Lil Wayne and co. have been running around claiming blood and shit it seemed like everyone needed to be part of a gang. I'd like to think that Nipsey Hussle and Jay Rock are using this fad to achieve a big buzz but I've yet to hear one song from either that doesn't focus on or mention gangbanging. At times I wonder why they're following in the south's footsteps rather than the west coast artists that came before them, like how Eazy-E kept his crip relations on a low profile and DJ Quik regreting wearing red and claiming Piru in the Safe + Sound days. I just hope they add more diversity to their songs or every song on their debut is going to sound exactly the same :P.

This is what West Coast niggaz be talking about. It's okay for everyone to do it but us! And Nipsey has stepped his game up. Bullets 1 & 2 were raw, str8 from from the turf. Bullets 3 demonstrated his evolution as an artist. But then again, it's okay for Lil Wayne, Birdman, Jim Jones, Gucci and folks to be flagged up but if West Coast niggaz do it, run the opposite direction. Oh and as far as promoters not wanting to book people like Nipsey, he's done shows in Conservation ass Orange County so booking isn't an issue if the demand is there.

Do not laugh at the orange county music scene. I see you have a link to a record label at the bottom of your post. Then you should really know better as someone in music if it is yours. These white kids out here really get down with the music and yes, there are Black folks out here too. These white kids do buy tickets and support artist. 40 water, Too Short as well as a few others do shows out here all the time and I'm not just talking at major venues.

As as far as Southern niggaz, even though you and most of use here out West find it insulting, you know you must admit that the industry has complained and played the west because of the flaggin' but have nothing to say when these other cats do it. Matter of fact, the industry promotes them. And on the same ticket, the industry complains about us and says that "oh, that's all west coast rappers can do, they don't have any real talent" but then they turn around and the only West Coast acts they sign and promote are gangsta rappers.

I hear what your saying but I believe it is up to us as Westcoast artist to break the stereotype that has been placed on us. Unfortunately Jay Rock, Nipsey and G malone to a certain extent still hold what they say is true about the Westcoast which is you have to be a gangsta rapper or have dre co-sign you to have  chance. I think we need to break the mold family. It seems like only gangsta shit is the only that still gets played out this way. I guess it can be blamed on the Dj's as well. And yes I own and run my own Indie Label Outrageous Records. Give me your objective ear and let me know your thoughts. I was raised in South Central but none of my music reflects the environment I grew up in. My body might be n the hood but my mind and where I am going is far from it.
