Thank Me Later sold 463k on his first week
« on: June 22, 2010, 01:43:15 PM »
According to Hits Double Daily but we'll be really clear when Soundscans numbers will drop

I'm sure he would have sell more last year after "Best I Ever Had" success but well still good numbers tho

damn good number seeing how he didn't even have a hit on this album

if he dropped the album with Best I Ever Had as the single it would have done at least 800k

He should hit a million eventually; but I guess we all knew he would.

Agreed, if he saved "Best I Ever Had" he might be at a million already. :P

Good numbers I guess. Expect him to be a fad that fades quite quickly.

Find Your Love & Over are pretty big.

Maybe not as big as "Lollipop" or "Candyshop" were, but still pretty big.

Sounds about right, he was missing that number 1 single in order to reach a milli. After a month, it's a nice album and it hasn't lost replay value. Could've been better though.

Drake ain't gonna fade.  He'll reach "og" status 1 day like Cube or 50 but he ain't goin nowhere, he's kinda already too big to fail.  And no that's NOT a comparison to Ice Cube.

those are definitely some great numbers to have first week, especially in 2010, but had this album dropped a few months after "Best I Ever Had" it would have done Carter 3 numbers if not more

as far as the album goes, I still play a few tracks off it but overall it got old pretty quick

Anyone who calls this a flop in 2010 is deluded. That said, I'm obviously not the only person who figured the numbers would be higher.

Drake had a few factors work against him though IMO:

- As has been said, no single on the level of "Best I Ever Had."
- Probably one of the most widely publicized leaks of recent memory.
- I think his campaign went a little astray during the leak. Talking about Rihanna the way he did was a bad move ("I was a pawn.") Whether he felt that way or not, I don't care. What I do feel, though, is that his namedropping of her came across to me as shrewd, and an obvious ploy for attention. It didn't sit well with me. He has pushed that "angle" ever since the rumours began. I feel like he knows she won't speak out so it's become an obvious publicity stunt.
- Tying in with the leak, a lot of people were of course left underwhelmed. I think the album ultimately tried too hard to please everyone. It has been proven time and time again that this is impossible. He wanted to appease the people that lauded him as the saviour of Hip-Hop. He wanted to satisfy the women more drawn to his croons on "Sooner Than Later." He wanted to deliver that typical Young Money arrogance. Considering all that, Thank Me Later is pretty cohesive, but it doesn't mean that Drake didn't spread himself too thin.

Should still go Platinum, and nowadays that is nothing to frown at.
