Man City Launch £100m Spree For Toure, Luiz And Dzeko
« on: July 02, 2010, 02:06:05 AM »
Manchester City last night launched a £100million summer spending spree with David Silva’s £24million capture.

City splashed out £120million last summer and they could match that eye-watering sum again with Silva the first of several big-money buys.

The Blues could fork out over £60million in just 72 hours.

Jerome Boateng officially completes his £11million switch from Hamburg on Thursday while Yaya Toure’s £26million move from Barcelona is all but done.

James Milner remains firmly in Roberto Mancini’s sights and City aim to clinch his £25million signing if he tells Aston Villa he wants to go when he returns from holiday.

And with Mancini also keen on Benfica defender David Luiz and Wolfsburg striker Edin Dzeko, City’s spending could easily top £100million for the second successive summer.

The megabucks Premier League side are also on course to smash the £300million barrier with their outlay in the two years since billionaire Sheikh Mansour bought the club.

City’s riches were enough to blow even Chelsea out of the water in the race for Silva and the Spanish World Cup winger has agreed a four-year deal worth a staggering £140,000-a-week.

Mancini has achieved a real coup in capturing Silva from Valencia and says the Euro 2008 winner’s arrival, which will be rubberstamped when he completes his medical after the World Cup, will help him attract more big names.

The Italian claims Silva’s transfer sends out a clear signal as he attempts to turn City into genuine title challengers next season.

“In signing David, we are showing the world that we are bringing the best players here and that we hope to compete to win the Premier League,” said the City manager.

“When players see what is happening at Manchester City and the ambition, they are attracted to what we are building and want to be a part of it.

“I think David is one of the best midfielders in Europe and I hope he will be a very important player for Manchester City. I’m so pleased he’s coming to us. I think he can make a big, big impact for Manchester City.”

Silva, 24, who had been at Valencia since he was 10, will meet his new team-mates later this month when he has had a holiday after the World Cup and the Canary Islander has promised to live up to his pricetag.

He wants to go down in the club’s history by helping the team win their first trophy since their League Cup success in 1976.

“I want to say that I always hoped to come to Manchester City and I’m excited about my future there,” he said. “They are a club with a great future with fantastic players. I want to be an important player in Manchester City’s history.

“I believe the Premier League is one of the best competitions in the world and I want to bring success to City and win trophies for them.

“The time is right for me to seek a new challenge and I’m thrilled about playing in England with Manchester City.”

City CEO Garry Cook sealed Silva’s transfer on Monday in face-to-face talks with Valencia president Manuel Llorente when he thrashed out the £24million fee.

The Blues agreed to delay news of the deal until yesterday morning because Silva was part of the Spain squad playing Portugal in the World Cup on Tuesday.

Ironically, Silva did not feature in the 1-0 win and he has not played since being substituted during Spain’s loss to Switzerland in their opening game.

So when will football finally have a rule that teams are only allowed to spend what they earn and not what some random camel jerkers inhereted through business that has absolutely nothing to do with the sport?
Cause I don't care where I belong no more
What we share or not I will ignore
And I won't waste my time fitting in
Cause I don't think contrast is a sin
No, it's not a sin

if we are not talking about "dirty" money, what's the problem ?

It's quite the definition of selling your soul to the devil... Dzeko will ruin his career if he goes there... and I wouldn't feel sad for him or anyone who does so...

nah, but he is clearly the number 1 striker in wolfsburg and can have 3 shitty games in a row with everybody still loving and appreciating him. if he goes to city, there's a shitload of offensive players who are also very famous and good, and if he has shitty games the english yellow press will torch him and he will be benched. city fans will also just see him as just another asset and he will be thrown in the trash if he sucks. wolfsburg on the other hand, he has grown into a world-wide known player there, they aren't used to having big stars, they will always love him and go through tough times with him.

and trust me, he still does have shitty games and he still misses clear goal chances, even though he's of course a very skilled striker

there are some valid points in what you say, but you we are talking about Manchester City not United, Arsenal or Chelsea.
i'm sure that city's fans have patience for a good striker like dzeko...

Yes, how many clubs are there out there that can afford to pay those wages. I bet Silva hadn't even heard of the club before they came in with an offer. No-one else could offer him this much money so how is it not fucked up?
