HipHop Is In A Great Place..
« on: July 29, 2010, 05:08:57 PM »
People complain too much. There are so many dope new hip hop artists putting out a plethora of quality music. J. Cole, Big K.R.I.T., Nipsey Hussle, Jay Rock, Freddie Gibbs, Pill, etc.

And all these artists are CONSTANTLY putting out new music. And (not my style) some love Curren$y, Smoke DZA who put put a lot of music too.

when people complain about hip hop, they usually mean the mainstream and as far as record sales and what's all over mtv. People need to let that shit go.

I agree with both of you, but its the same for every genre. Also, people need to realise that a lot of those complaining, complain because they LOVE hip-hop and don't like to see the bad in it.

Its not necessarily a bad thing.

But the deal is that the "bad" in hip hop is really just an opinion. For instance, everyone on this forum loves that good ole 90s gangsta shit but that music was way more "negative" than the type of music Soulja Boy and his like are making.

I can see where you're coming from with the freedom of speech and matter of individual taste. Everyone is entitled to that. But I think purists or people who have been in love with this music for so so long have earned the right to voice their opinion if they think a certain new strand of music is ruining something to hold dear, no matter how critical or negative that opinion may be.

There's nothing wrong with being critical as long as its your honest appraisal, and not said simply to be conflictive.

True, nothing wrong with criticism, but that doesn't mean the rest of us have to take it seriously. I can see it from both angles. Because I think the new mainstream music is mostly wack as well, but it is what it is. I still have all my underground music and that hasn't changed. I'm not gonna bitch about what a kid wants to listen to. Also we gotta keep in mind that back in the 90s, all those 80s heads were saying the exact same thing about our music.

Also, is there really a difference between the type of music Soulja Boy makes and what Vanilla Ice or MC Hammer were doing during the 90s? If you think its wack say its wack, but the music has a right to exist. I'll call it wack, but I won't go around saying that a certain rapper is destroying hip hop. That would be giving them far too much credit.

I applaud you for being so optimistic about everything and Im not dissin the acts you mentioned because I know you have good taste in music...

...but personally in my opinion, HIPHOP IS DEAD!  Underground and Mainstream.  I mean when the head is fucked up the body is gonna be fucked up, and Lil Wayne is on top right now and when he's making shit like,

"baybe 1, 2, 3... you want to date a black guy?/ one u go blak u never go back/ your love is a knockout"

^^^When that is your head how can the body not be fucked up?

When the pioneers were runnin it back in the old school, and Snoop and 2pac in the 90's and then the last great was Eminem, they were at the head, so the body (the underground) was also dope.

But now hiphop is all fucked up.  Damian Marley with his Jamrock and Distant Relatives album is like the only cat really doing it big, but people dont even consider him rap they consider him reggae...

so fuck it, hiphop is dead!

Some of y'all are sheep. Nas names an album hip hop is dead and everyone wants to jump on the bandwagon.

The truth of the matter is that Lil Wayne is far more bearable than this:

Gucci Mane? Now that's another story. Wayne has some things working for him, Gucci has the world's worst voice, terrible ass punchlines & wordplay.

Funny thing is, people say "I like 'his' beats", like he makes them or something. Motherfuckers are just retarded lmfao.

I still say that joint shits all over Lil Wayne's career, lol... I mean, that was like George Michael going through an identity crisis and waking up and thinking he was RunDMC.

That wouldn't be surprising in the slightest lol. I can't think of a positive aspect from his music lol.
