Revisiting Kanye West "Graduation"...
« on: August 07, 2010, 12:10:45 PM »
Already did the first two albums revisiting thread, figured I mines will do this one too, since the other two threads went well with discussion..

1. Good Morning Intro - 4.25/5. Love the beat. Kanye spits nice on here. Great opening album track.
2. Champion - 4.25/5. More upbeat but dope. The beat is great. Kanye spits very nice too. And another great cut.
3. Stronger - 4.5/5. Everyone knows this one. A great single. What a genius sample choice. It really worked.

4. I Wonder - 4/5. Barely remember this track. Love the beat. Sample is very soulful. Kanye's flow choice is interesting on here. I think he actually downgrades it a little.
5. Good Life - 4.5/5. Another Kanye mainstream gem. Not on the level of some of his earlier gem singles but still a great track.
6. Can't Tell Me Nothing - 5/5. One of my favorite Kanye joints ever. Straight classic to me. Can still bump it. Love when it comes on "The Hangover" movie lol.

7. Barry Bonds - 3.5/5. Beat is ok. Concept is cool haha. Wayne's verse is nothin impressive. Both artists were ok. Have come way better before.
8. Drunk & Hot Girls - 2/5. Weirdest possible Kanye/Def collabo. U would think it was gonna be some crazy real hiphop shit. It's just so weird lol.
9. Flashing Lights - 4.75/5. Love it! Dwele/Kanye make great records together. Was a great single choice. Of the singles, slightly like this better than Good Life/Stronger.

10. Everything I Am - 4.5/5. Very slow and soulful. For some reason, I don't really remember this song either (I'm ashamed lol) but it's good. Great album cut.
11. The Glory - 4.25/5. Beat is dope. Kind of sounds like Champion in terms of the vibe. Kanye rapped with a lot of passion on here.
12. Homecoming - 5/5. A classic! Kanye always thinks of these dope collabo's not enough rappers do. Love this song. Gotta give it a perfect rating.

13. Big Brother - 5/5. Very honest track of Kanye. Love this right here. Most rappers are to insecure/afraid to make a track like this. Giving it up to who really helped them.

Very different Kanye album. Short, no skits. But overall, pretty much the same amount of songs as TCD/LR. Probably the worst out of the three, but just slightly. And that's no negative comment, all three albums are just that great. Songs like Barry Bonds/Drunk Hot Girls ensure that it's the worst of the 3 though. But this is still a great hiphop album.

Overall: 8.5/10

Bring on the new album!! Pushed back to November  :-\

Not sure I can make a thread like this for "808s" lol...

10 good/great songs, 2 mediocre/wack songs (7,8) and 1 good song that doesn't fit the album at all (3)... It's a good album, but in not close to Ye's other 2 albums (not counting 808s).

Two other minuses that need to be adressed:
- that's a wack ass and useless rap from Lil Wayne;
- he shouldn't have left off "Bittersweet".

Hopefully the new album will be better than this one. "Power" is a great song, so I have good hope :)

Agree on tracks 7/8. Stronger is dope although u claim it doesn't fit. It's still a good song. But I see what u mean, if it ruins the vibe of the album for u, that is a downfall. It doesn't do that for me though.

Can u hook up "Bittersweet?"

Please don't make a thread for 808's....not worth revisiting.  It's the equivalent of when Michael Jordan played for the Chicago White Sox....it happened but let's never bring it up again lol

I thought this was a 5/10 album really. There's only 4 or 5 songs on there I can really appreciate. A lot of it was throwaway. Its a half-decent album but nowhere near in the smae realms as his first two. The singles from this album were crap aswell.

For me this was the start of the end of Kanye's solo career, and 808s just made it worse. Hopefully his new LP can bring him back to form from the first two LPs.

here's the "final" version.  Wish I had the original version that features a sample and Keyshia Cole, but I don't think anything exists beyond a 30-second clip.

This is pretty great. I bet the sample version did sound better and that means it was probably amazing.

For me this is his worst album.  It's even behind 808s.
Cool breeze; I'm hopping out of new Beams
My outfit ran me a few G's but none of that will matter if you leave
I used to be an Adam with two Eves and shawtys automatically do me
Excuse me, all that happened before you doesn't matter
I'm a vision of the future climbing the success ladder
Recline, in the mean time, twenty three shine, diamond bling blind as I rewind

Lyrically it wasn't up to par with Dropout but it's my favorite Kanye album, one of my favorite personal albums period.

That's cause Dropout was ghost written by a bunch of Chicago MCs.

Production was next level on this album.
