as long as cube jocks the south & put his kids on his album, i don't see the point in criticising younger artists from the west coast

I don't think anyone disputes that, but from a diss song perspective, Cube gots to take a L on that song.

exactly

Cube's one of my fav artists..but dude has been rapping for like 25 years and is really contradicting himself as he puts his sons on his album.  aren't they technically "new wesT" since they aren't established? :D

I'll say as I always have. Old and new need each other. As consumers, we get tired of the same old thing after awhile which is why the most succesful artists in terms of longevity are people who can, at least to some degree, reinvent themselves. By pushing a new artist, the old artist gets that shine from having their name associated with a new guy's success. But that young artist needs to bring something to the table or it's not a business relationship, it's a handout. I think Dre was one of the most succesful when it came to this. In working with Snoop in the early 90's and then Eminem, he gave these guys credibility when they needed it but they brought a lot to the table as artists and allowed Dre to be accesible to a wider audience. The problem with the West is there are very few new stars to come out and keep that tree going and it falls on both sides because in the end, the same guys from the 90's working with each other over and over again is never going to bringing the region back to the forefront. That "2001"-"Up In Smoke Tour" situation worked because not only were you giving people the established acts like Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, and Snoop but you were pairing them with that younger crop like Eminem and Xzibit. For Cube or Snoop to stay hot, they need to co-sign the next big young artist out of the West.

Cube speaking the truth. These young dudes trying to tell Snoop, Cube and Jay to sit down. You can't take the throne if your music is crap or you can't even get an album out. Folks don't realize that it's still the OG's running the game. Yeah Drake sold over a mil but Em is in his late 30's and did double. BEP (35) still pushing crazy numbers, Jay is damn 40. Even Wayne is approaching is 30's. The only dudes getting any pub on the West currently, commercially, are Snoop (38) and Game (30). Tell dudes to make better music if they want the throne.
