What sequels live up to their OGs?
« on: October 27, 2010, 11:12:18 PM »
After all this Doggystyle 2 I've been wondering.  The new single isn't nearly as good as Gin and Juice or What's My Name.  I know it is a different era but quality must remain the same if you want a proper sequel.  Off the top of my head these are the sequels worthy of the OGs:
Raekwon- Only Built For Cuban Linkxx
Dr. Dre- The Chronic and 2001
Wu-Tang- 1st and 2nd albums (don't know if they were an official sequel but close)
... can't think of anything else at the moment.

Most notably:
Cypress Hill's first 4 albums even though III & IV have very different vibes.
Method Man's Tical series

Not sure if it counts as a sequel but Return of the Regulator was a very solid release.

A lot of the ones mentioned aren't really sequels, just follow ups or another album from the artist.
- Dillinger and Young Gotti and Dogg Food are not related, is there even a DYG II ???
- Return of the Regulator wasn't official but close enough (isn't he doing a Regulator 2??) but anyways imo I don't think it came close to matching the original classic at all....
- If Jay-Z trimmed the Blueprint 2 down to one disc I'd give it to him

Didn't Snoop also already attempt sequels for G thang and Gin & Juice on his first album with No Limit?
