Last I heard the doctor evaluated him and came to the conclusion that the voice surgery would have helped his voice very little or not at all and DOC decided it wasn't worth the risk to go through with the surgery.  Can't say i blame him if the results weren't going to be there.  I really don't mind the raspy voice, i thought Helter Skelter was good.  He just needs some encouragement to release another album with the raspy voice.  I think some of his 'friends' are telling him not to do it.
