Big Pun came outta nowhere
« on: November 01, 2010, 06:13:53 PM »
Seriously...now maybe I'm not up on shit here, but the first thing I ever heard from him was that still not a player w/ Joe.  I never heard him on any features or whatever, dude just came outta nowhere.  Maybe he was on some DITC or some shit w/ Fat Joe or somethin?

If you've got some Big Pun prior to Capital Punishment, then post it here.

He was def one of the last great MC's...worthy of a place w/ the all time greats.  Flows, multis, vocab, beat selection...dude was just insane.

RIP PUN

I believe this was his first appearance on anything that I'm aware of....

This was a track off Funkmaster Flex's 60 Minutes Of Funk Volume 1

Fat Joe & Big Punisher - Freestyle   http://www.zshare.net/audio/822396637702d188/

I might catch hate for this but I think if he didn't collapsed into a black hole he would've taken the fat Joe route.

When Fat Joe met Pun he automatically asked him to join his crew.
Fat Joe Got him a meeting with loud records and he got signed.

That's what I remember from the documentary though.

And you should never call Pun the best seeing how he took a lot of his style from KGR

I'll just go on record and say capital punishment was the best album of 98, and that Pun could not only hang with, but outshine some of the GOATs. It has nothing to do with him being dead, dude was a flat out beast on the mic and that's undeniable.

I mean who knows, he coulda went pop. Puns worst effort was better than joes best, so he may not have had to go that route.

And as far as Kool G Rap is concerned, Pun kissed dudes ring, payed homage and all that. KGR had mad respect for Pun.

And I never said he was the best, just that he is def worthy of mention when u talk about some of the all time great mc's.

Was more a general post than a response to you.

I'm not even going to bother with all the "worthy of a mention when discussing the greatest mc's" since so many mc's are worthy of a mention according to the hip-hop community.
