2010. New West >>> "Mr. I AM Wish I Was The West".

Albums from 10+ years ago are irrelevant in 2010 arguments.

As is 0 albums from artists hyping something like it is a movement. Simple as put out or shut up. Works with women too lol. Nah but on the real it is time for someone from the west other than the usual suspects to drop a project.

From The La Times

October 22, 2010 |  6:00 am

One of the worst kept secrets within West Coast hip-hop circles was the conflict between Ice Cube and the so-called New West clique, a loose coterie that includes Jay Rock, Nipsey Hussle, Glasses Malone, Crooked I and Bishop Lamont. The latter two had promised to make a "No Country for Old Men" mixtape aimed obliquely at Cube and other rappers they felt were impeding their advancement opportunities.

To paraphrase Cube's position, he rightly questioned why it was his responsibility to help put on other rappers. Things never worked out as planned with Da Lench Mob (Where art thou, T-Bone?) and he latelyseems more concerned with helping to shepherd his children's career. Oh, and run the multimillion-dollar enterprise that is being the rapper-actor-producer born O'Shea Jackson.

Most tellingly of hip-hop 2010 is that the beef simmered but never really cooked. The snarling Ice Cube of "Westside Slaughterhouse" and "No Vaseline" is currently in mogul mode. Granted, his new "I Am the West" record made myriad subliminal attacks at his would-be young rivals, but refused to call them out by name.

Conversely, the New West rappers missed an easy opportunity to piggyback off Cube's notoriety by never pushing any of the diss tracks they were purportedly planning. Plus, some good music might have come out of it, not to mention a few good "Janky Promoter" jokes.

However, cooler heads have prevailed. Cube recently told AllHipHop.com that, "All that [stuff] is squashed, [we] are keeping the unity on the West Coast. They know I'm down to work any of them at any time, so there really aint anything to perpetuate. I'm glad [we] was men about it and just said 'Yo, it aint no beef' and squashed it. The New West and the Old West can always work together to make money."

In the meantime, the New West presumably awaits its invite to appear on the "Are We There Yet?" TV show.
sick of cube's sorry ass trying to prove he's the shit.

he is the shyt nigga, keep getting sick  ;)

Very few artist come into the game without support and even those few who have huge a push usually have a large co-sign.  Hell, 50 had Em; Drake had Lil Wayne; Game had 50; Em had Dr.Dre.  It's the way of the game.  Plus, it wasn't just about getting the co-sign, it was about black balling by artist like Snoop who later came out and admitted he was hating for no real reason.  So, while for some them it was "why won't you work with me?"  Most of it was "Don't fucking try to stop my success by spreading lies and blackballing me before I get the chance to succeed."

That's BS. the only reason the New West artists are being talked about on this forum is because they got cosigned. Crooked I had Death Row, Bishop had Aftermath, Glasses had Black Wall Street and then Cash Money.

They didn't catch on plain and simple. If they had been getting the buzz the albums would have come out. I have much more respect for the artists like Blu and Fashawn who have been able to put out music without the cosign. Why is it only the dudes who HAVE been cosigned who are complaining?

1) Crooked I had Death Row, really?  What label was left at that point?

2) Bishop had Aftermath's resources but he never had Aftermath.

3a) Black Wall Street has never existed.  That's a myth.
3b) You're right about Cash Money.

Show me a major artist today that wasn't featured on a bigger artist single before blowing or didn't have another bigger artist on theirs.  The only one I can think of is Soulja Boy.

All those are good points. For me it is really becoming put up or shut up. For every artist that does not have a co sign from a OG, there are artists doing they thing independently and creating a lane for themselves, even on the west coast. And to be honest, I don't hear any of them complaining about this artist would or would not co sign or help me. Yeah it would be nice, but like the old saying goes, if you want something done right, sometimes you have to do it by yourself.

That was definitely not aimed at him. All Bishop needs is distribution and promo.

Crooked I was put on songs with Pac for crying out loud. Glasses has done songs with Lil Wayne. Bishop had singles produced by Dr. Dre.

Again, why are the only artists complaining the ones who have actually gotten cosigns? Just cause 2 major artists from the west choose not to fuck with a couple of rappers you like means they're blackballed now? Why would you expect Snoop to fuck with Crooked when he was signed to a label he had beef with and was labeling himself the "New Death Row." Why would you expect Ice Cube not to take shots after he hears about Glasses dissing him in an interview and about "No Country for Old Men."

Fact: Snoop and Dre are cosigning their own people. They're just not cosigning the rappers you happen to like. You just can't expect that, especially in this decade where the west isn't hot anymore. I doubt Ice Cube is checking this forum for the latest online leaks or mixtapes, so why would he give props to someone he hasn't heard any music from?

The funny thing is that now that Crooked I is getting a little buzz with Slaughterhouse, Cube hopefully has heard some of his songs and might have worked with him....but of course now Crooked I says fuck you  :D

This entire "New West" angle was a bust...  ;D
The main dudes involved are already either pushing/over 30+
(That's old for Hip-Hop)

Check Cube's resume, He already did his making/bringing new talent to hip-hop. (Google it)
He has brought/introduced many artists to the table, Same goes w/Snoop, DJ Quik ect...

What are these "New West/30+ year olds crying about?

LOL, one of the dude's pushing "New West" was spawned from a Cube seed. (mainstream)
