Back when Kanye was dope

Kanye's old production work is so much better than his new stuff.

Puts the production on his new album to shame. If anyone disagrees, I can't see it.

his new production is much more versatile and musical, these beats are just hip-hop

True.... but isn't hip hop why we're all here? lol.

Agree with the OP. New album isn't bad, it's different, just not my thing.

So what other category does his new stuff come under? He's not doing anything new like playing instruments himself. They are just hip hop beats too. This is proof that when he kept it simpler, it sounded better. He's just trying to much things with his new style that I feel its nearly unlistenable.

My opinion is that Kanye had that earlier style perfected in a way that everybody wanted that trademark Kanye beat. A nice old sample with a hard beat and some instruments playing over it. Done.
Nowadays he's trying new shit over and over. This shows a real artist. They hated on 808's, but it had some hits.

Fact of the matter is, everytime you try something new they're gonna hate. Look at Detox, I think the majority hopes for a Chronic 2011 sound but when the new songs come out people instantly hate.

This is one of the main things that bugs me about hiphop. People are thinking inside the box, everyone wants that boombap 90's sound back meanwhile people around them are evolving and progressing.

There will always be both innovators and perfectors.

Innovators will try new things and have the risk of failing.
Perfectors do the same shit over and over until they master the style.

What is wrong with his new production? It's like you guys hate when an artist evolves and does something different.

Most producers and rappers don't evolve anymore and that's why hip-hop, as a whole, is thoroughly fucked.

Don't get me wrong, Kanye's production from that period was good shit. That time has passed, gentlemen. He is still just as good, if not even better and more versatile like others have said in this thread.

Love his new production.

You can prefer his older production, but to call this thread "Back when Kanye was dope", like he isn't now is a joke.

His 30minvideo and album are one of the most surprisingly welcome things to happen to 2010 (along with some motion with the Detox album)
