Nas - God's Son

Nas – God’s Son
1. Get down…Automatically reminiscent of Ice T’s “You played yourself”, using the sample of ‘The Boss’. Nas flows like water over the smooth track telling a story. 4.5/5
2. The cross…Dope production by Eminem—it matches up well to Nas’ flow and delivery. Great hook. 5/5
3. Made you look…Nas lays down some great verses, but the beat is terrible. It would be a hell of a lot better if the beat were different. 3/5
4. Last real nigga alive…Tight slow production. Nas tells a summarization of his come-up into the rap game. He takes shots and give props. 4.5/5
5. Zone out…The production sounds like it’s being played backwards. This is pretty much a Bravehearts track, with Nas laying down minimal vocals. The Bravehearts do not bring much to the table here. 1.5/5
6. Hey Nas…Fairly simple production opens the track up and Nas begins to tell a story of a woman and later expands to what he looks for in a soul mate. Kelis sounds great on the hook. 4/5
7. I can…Another basic beat but what makes it come alive is the melodic piano. Nas spits 3 great verses in this inspirational track, mainly aimed at children. The children’s vocals are a nice touch to the chorus. 4.5/5
8. Book of rhymes…This is a unique concept of a song. Nas is thumbing through some of his old rhymes while in the studio and stops in the middle of them and starts with another. Beat fits well. 4/5
9. Thugz mansion…This song does not sound right at all. Nas and Pac put down some dope lyrics, but it almost sounds like a country song. A+ for the vocals, but the acoustic version is a skipper. 2/5
10. Mastermind…Smooth production. Nas puts together a nice mafiaoso track. 4/5
11. Warrior song…The production by Alicia Keys is a bit bland, put Nas’ vocals sound great mixed with it. Alicia’s hook is A+. 4/5
12. Revolutionary warfare…Beat has an uptempo/happy feel to it. Nas and Lake sound good together trading verses back and forth on the last verse. 4/5
13. Dance…A heartfelt track dedicated to Nas’ mother. Two powerful verses. Great chorus. 5/5
14. Heaven…Chorus is a bit drawn out, but it still sounds good. Nas sounds great on the mic even though his flow is very different from his regular style. A good message about material things vs. tangible objects. 4/5
OVERALL…4/5
Very consistent album. The entire CD gives off an overall positive vibe, which is nice for a change with much of what comes out today. Nas’ most personal album to date, with a wide range of subject matter.

Get Down - Great opener, smooth track - 4.5/5
The Cross - One of the best Eminem productions yet. Nice verses - 4.25/5
Made You Look - Ruff street track. Kinda doesn't fit the rest of the album, but still it's dope - 4.25/5
Last Real Nigga Alive - Lyrically very interesting and a pretty impressive view on NY's 90's rap history from Nas' perspective - 5/5
Zone Out - I don't know why people don't like this. It's nuthin special, but I don't see what's supposed to be bad about it - 3.25/5
Hey Nas - Could be a nice track, but to me the chorus is very annoying - 3/5
I Can - Nice way of using a very old and well-known melody for a hiphop beat - 3.75/5
Book Of Rhymes - Very unique, The Alchemist's production fits nicely...overall one of the best tracks - 4.25
Thug'z Mansion (NY) - I just don't like that type of chorus. Pac's and Nas' verses make up for it though, plus the track not having any kind of bassline makes it very unique - 3.75/5
Mastermind - Average on this album, I skip this alot, not that it's wack or something though - 3/5
Warrior Song - Also rather average on this album - 2.75/5
Revolutionary Warfare - Great beat, interesting lyrics. I listen to this one alot - 4.5/5
Dance - Very deep and emotional, lyrically great. The hook fits in and Nas shows more skills than on most other tracks putting his feelings into words - 4.5/5
Heaven - Strange song, I like the uptempo beat it has, it's pretty unique too - 3.5/5

Lets see, lyrics were on point.. he brought a whole lot of wisdom on this album
Beats, some alright ones. I like the beat to "Made you Look" and "Book of Rhymes".
Personally I think he needs to work on his delivery, I know alot of people will disagree cause according to most his delivery is just where it needs to be.
Production was decent too.
I'd give it a 4/5

This album was pretty boring to me... it was a huge step backwards for Nas from "Stillmatic" Imo.
These tracks stand out: "Dance", "Get Down", "Book Of Rhymes" & "The Cross". The rest of the album is just mediocre...
3.5 / 5
Peace
