Manchester City offer 35m euros for Dzeko
« on: December 29, 2010, 07:05:16 AM »
Edin Dzeko is set to break the Bundesliga transfer record by joining Manchester City from Wolfsburg for a fee in the region of €40million, according to reports in Germany.

The Bosnian striker has made no secret of his desire to leave the German side for a bigger club and, while his dream has always been to join AC Milan, the fact the Italians have just signed Antonio Cassano from Sampdoria reduces the chances of that move coming off.

However, City have the ambition to become one of Europe's top clubs and they also have the financial backing, and a transfer of Dzeko next month is looking more likely.

Coach Roberto Mancini has also confirmed that he is a fan of the 24-year-old.

The Wolfsburger Allgemeine newspaper quotes Mancini saying: "We have the chance to win the league this year and the decisive factor could be Edin Dzeko.

"This player can decide titles and that is why we want him."

Wolfsburg's managing director Dieter Hoeness declared last week that his club is preparing to make major changes to the playing personnel after a disappointing first half of the season.

Selling a player of Dzeko's talent may not be his preference, but the player's malaise at the 2009 Bundesliga champions, who currently seem unlikely to provide him with the chance to play in the Champions League next season, may be one of the reasons the team has not been functioning since Steve McClaren took over as coach in the summer.

A fee of €40million, which the Wolfsburger Allgemeine reports would be made up of an initial fee of €30million with €5million to follow in the case of City qualifying for the Champions League, while €5million would go on signing-on and agent fees, would break the Bundesliga's transfer record.

Bayern Munich currently hold that with their €30million outlay on Mario Gomez from Stuttgart in 2009.

Diego's sale from Werder Bremen to Juventus last year is the most expensive foreign sale to date at €27million, while he returned to the Bundesliga last summer, joining Wolfsburg for a cut-price fee of €15.5million.

And the Wolves are set to make a huge profit on a player they signed for just €4million from FK Teplice in 2007.

He won the Bundesliga golden boot award last season after coming runner-up to his team mate Grafite in Wolfsburg's championship-winning year.

He has already found the back of the net 10 times this season, taking his overall tally to 66 in 111 games for Wolfsburg.

Manchester City close in on Edin Dzeko as £30m striker is primed for debut at Arsenal

Edin Dzeko faces the prospect of a mouthwatering debut against Arsenal as Manchester City close in on a £30million deal for the Wolfsburg striker.

Sportsmail revealed on Tuesday that City were in advanced talks over the fine details of the transfer - and his move is expected to be wrapped up early next week.

The agreement will come with performance-related add-ons and would rise, for example, if Dzeko leads City to the Barclays Premier League title this season.

Eastlands boss Roberto Mancini believes the Bosnia and Herzegovina hot shot could be the difference between glory and failure in a tight title race this season and has pursued the 24-year-old since the summer.

Despite interest from Juventus and Real Madrid, City's superior spending power seems to have won out again.

He will join captain Carlos Tevez and Mario Balotelli in an impressive arsenal at Eastlands and his arrival should hasten the departure of Emmanuel Adebayor and Roque Santa Cruz.

The new year's day fixture against Blackpool will come too soon for Dzeko to make his bow, but he could be pencilled in for the trip to high-flying Arsenal on Wednesday week.

The Gunners were one of the first English teams to pursue interest in Dzeko 18 months ago, but it is a measure of City's growth that Arsene Wenger would no longer even consider entering a bidding war for him.

He will more than likely end up at City, but you know that the football world has gone crazy when players like Edin Dzeko, good and potentially great though he is, can cost upwards of 30million.

Man City have warped the transfer market and wasted at least 100million of the 300 plus theyve spent by just paying over the odds. They can't do this forever.

Nobody wants to play for Wolfsburg. The only thing that keeps players there is $$$ (or €€€).Wolfsburg is one of the most pathetic clubs in Germany.

True. But Wolfsburg is  worse: I think Man City has atleast some fans, they doesn't. And Man City has some history, Wolfsburg doesn't (ok, that's not decisive). And I think there are some people who would live in Manchester, but nobody wants to live in Wolfsburg (I think not even 1 Woflsburg player lives there, atleast it was like this in the past). Wolfsburg is not even a real city, it's just VW.
Well both don't have any prestige, in this respect they may be even.

Dzeko would prefer clubs like Juventus or Milan, it's just that they can't afford him.

I don't understand what the fuss about the transfer fee is about? 32 mil € is a normal price these days for a 24-year-old world class striker. Even Mario Gomez was more expensive.

Not sure about that, he sent a letter to city a few weeks ago begging them to sign him.
