The Seahawks gave Mike Williams an early birthday present on Monday, signing their leading receiver to a three-year contract extension.

"I'm happy to be here," said Williams, who turns 27 on Tuesday. "I can't really put it into words, but I'm very blessed."

The terms of the contract are not available.

The extension is another step in Williams' remarkable turnaround. The former No. 10 overall pick was out of football for the past two seasons before reuniting with Pete Carroll, his former coach at USC.

"I always felt like I needed to be loyal to coach Carroll. He gave me an opportunity," said Williams, who signed a one-year deal with the Seahawks in April and now leads the team in receptions (65) and receiving yards (751) despite missing nearly three full games due to injuries. "Obviously, there was some excitement about maybe free agency and the possibilities, but I knew I wanted to be here."

Williams had three catches in the Seahawks' win over St. Louis on Sunday, including a 4-yard touchdown on Seattle's opening drive.

He said both sides began talks of an extension earlier in the season before finalizing the deal over the weekend.

For once a Seattle reaps the benefit of another teams draft bust..his overall stats weren't phenomenal but when he was healthy he looked about as good as any wideout in the league.

I dono man, Carroll was William's coach at USC and always got the best out of him, something tells me that as long as he's with Pete he'll give it his all. He already fucked up multiple times and seems determined not to let it happen again.
