Listening to that new Quik got me thinking
« on: February 02, 2011, 10:52:58 AM »
and probably only Matty would back me on this.

Quik releases a single that's really stellar and is loyal to his signature sound - crisp and melodic with a bit of funk to it.Some say that he hasn't evolved (I see Trauma and Blaqkout as proof that he actually has) but hell, why is that bad?Quik is a master at his craft and he is majorly underappreciated as an artist which allows him to drop whatever the fuck he wants, but I'm kind of getting offtopic here.

Moving on, I think Dre should've done what Quik did. Some would say that he actually did it with Kush, but it's really not as solid as Quik's single. He should've kept that "I Promise You" beat (Hot Dollar featuring Guerrilla Black) for himself.Beat is again him and Khalil (mostly Khalil if I might say) and like Quik's song it's a testament to the older sound but with a slightly new twist. It's not as uptempo as Kush but I think it would've done the job, since it's a much better beat imo and they could've built a nice Dre/Snoop song off it with a nice final mixdown.

I know this is another what Dre could've/should've done/Detox thread, but hell, I'm just thinking out loud

And I said matty would back me because he was one of the few who liked the I promise you beat when it dropped. The negative feedback it got was really odd to me

thanks for the shoutout ;D

that beat was dope, i really don't think kush is very nice so a lot of dre/khalil beats are better or potentially better with the full treatment. having said that, there will be at least a couple of joints on detox on the dark banger kind of vibe that make the hot dollar beat sound weak, that i'm sure of :bandit:

there was discussion a while back from an insider about a joint that was meant to be one of the best dre's ever done, obviously being kept for detox. i think we'll know when we hear that record. also, i think 'bitches on my dick' is mixed by dre and one of the illest beats on that dark banger kind of vibe to drop in recent years 8)

I back you on this. With each album, quik hits that fine balance between evolving his music and keeping his signature sound 8)

I tend to forget Bitches On My Dick...it easily could've done a much better job than I promise you if used by Dre, that's a fact. It's nice to see you haven't lost hope with I Need A Doctor being in the picture  ;D

IF you never change your style yet it can keep up with the sound today, that means that you're a truly skilled artist.  Examples- Primo, and Quik.

i'm with you, but Dre would have been criticised regardless ( yet another boring piano loop, he takes credit etc.)

All tha top niggas from Compton should just get together for a compilation produced by and only featuring niggas from Compton.  Dre, Quik, Game, Kendrick, Hootie, Yella, etc.  When it comes to Hip Hop history n shit, Compton = Brooklyn or Bompton = Crooklyn, hey there`s an idea rite there too lol but seriously tho.

i agree somewhat. i think quik's evolving point was rhythmalism. this new shit is him bouncin back but he needs to tweek it. i hope his new shit is great like he was years ago.
