Yup and that's why it doesn't work as a publicity stunt. Say what you will about 50 Cent but when he went at Jay and the rest of them, he was using the same thinking but he did it in a way that had captured people's attention. He did it more like "It's not meant on some beef shit but if people's feelings get hurt, I don't care". You have to be a little raw about it for it to work. There's hundreds of up-and-coming rappers dissing big names.
