thats not true...jay dee was the producer guys like pete rock and diamond d and prince paul  all looked up to.

he didnt blow until he died but he was definetly the producer who had "next" around the 99-01 era

J dilla was well known before he died. Only some people ( hack) didn't know him, hed been around 15 years.I remember an interview with pharell when dilla was still alive and he shouted out dilla as one of his major influences

the peak of jay dee career was before the emergence of file sharing and the internet came into play...he died around the time that the internet became the standard.

anyone who was into "conscious rap" in he 90s and early 00's this guy was god status then he (and quest love) became the poster child of the short lived neo soul movement....he moved in different circles then alot of his contemporaries and thats why it seems like when he passed then everyone start bandwagoning him.
