Okay so I don't usually do these types of columns... but this right here needs to be adressed! I am seriously questioning the work ethic of Hip-Hop blogs out there! Hear me out...

So I wake up yesterday and I see a new song in my mailbox labeled Too Short featuring E-40 and Raphael Saadiq called "Sugar Daddy". First thought that came to mind was "This is gonna be a banger!" So I did as every other blog did, I downloaded the song.

Now here's where something goes terribly wrong. I put on the song and immediately recognize the old Tony Toni Tone beat from "Gangsta's Groove" (1993). By now, I'm thinking this is either a remake or just a mixtape cut (when has Short Dogg done mixtape tracks, though?)

Now as soon as "Too Short" started rapping, I was like what the f-ck? That's not Too Short! Yeah, whoever it is does a great job imitating Short - but it is not Too Short.

Come the chorus... same chorus as the old Tony Toni Tone song. After "Too Short" spit two and a half verses, here comes "E-40"! Now this imitation is just laughable. First off, he didn't imitate the 2011 E-40, but more like the 1996 E-40 with the high pitches and funny noises.

So I'm like... It's all good. Some dude did a great job imitating two Hip-Hop legends and tried to get some buzz. Case dismissed.

Next thing I know, one after the other, every major Hip-Hop blog on the net starts posting the song! So I start doubting myself... I call up the homie Ghazi (CEO of EMPIRE Distribution), who immediately hits Too Short on the cell and tells him: "Bro, are you aware of this so-called "Sugar Daddy" song floating on the internet"?

Too Short's reponse? "Hell nah that's not us. Blast them muthaf-ckas let them know that shit is fake!"

No disrespect, I love all you guys' work and I probably visit your blog everyday.

But... as a reputable Hip-Hop blog, it should be your duty to LISTEN to the music before you post it. Sure, a Too Short featuring E-40 and Raphael Saadiq song is something you post without thinking twice, even if the song is garbage, they're legends! But you owe it to your rep and to your visitors to double check what you post...

With that being said, there is no "Sugar Daddy" song by Too Short, E-40 and Raphael Saadiq! To whoever the dude is imitating them... great job, you fooled the internets!

Skim.

If its dope, it dont hit the fast forward, i listen the whole way thru. If the artist is a scammer or I have dealt with in the past and they took you 4 a fool, or tried to take the money and run, well I dont even acknowledge it or download it. Dont support their music nor play it in the niteclubs when I DJ.

Not much coming out these days thats good, or original songs. Sik of freestyles and mixtape beats.

All my songs with Kokane, Ms. Toi, Mac Shawn100, Top Dogg etc on iTunes. & Amazon.

Now a days music is so easy to get, people seem to skim through albums or listen once and decide its shit. To me you have to listen to an album at least three times to see if an albums a grower or not. Back in the day when you had to pay for music you would listen to albums over and over just to get your moneys worth. Now a days people download an album skim through it, decide its shit and move on to the next one.

This is true, and i do it myself.
Every now and then i give a album i first thought was week a second listen, just to find out i diddent listen good enough the first time.
To much music so it almost like i dont have the time to listen to music like i used to do.

Cant imagine how many songs i`ve dismissed after just skimming thru it, songs i might woulda liked if i listen to them again.

In response to your thread I have a question for you.  Do you actually listen to music by artist that you have never heard of and/or aren't attached to a credible company?  I feel like there is a big lack of support for upcoming artist out of the west that make great music on all of these west coast websites.  I am not talking about artist that send unprofessional emails or badly mixed music.  But there are a lot of artist out here that make great music that never get love on any westcoast websites.  What makes you actually checkout an email from someone that you have never heard of?  That question is for anyone that owns, works or has had a blog/website presently or in the past.

Not songs that have already been released. That's just stupid.
