Fat Joe - Jealous Ones Envy (1995)
« on: February 09, 2012, 06:19:29 AM »
Allright, here is another appreciation thread of a forgotten classic which has been bumping in my car for a couple of days: Fat Joe's second album Jealous Ones Envy (1995). This album is great from beginnning to end: great production, dope braggin' hood lyrics & a few good guest performers (Big Pun's first commercial appearance). Even though I'm not a fan of him anymore for years now (and I expect most of you do), you really have to check this album! This is what makes him great & gained him the respect in the underground circles & classic hip-hop acts (DITC, Gang Starr etc). Check it if you haven't heard it before & you will not be dissapointed; and if you have it, give it a spin again & enjoy!!  8)

Can you confirm that you actually heard this album & still say that you find it wack? Everybody can have an opinion, but this would really suprise me. If you love good classic hip-hop, than you will definitely like this album. His later work is nothing compared to this.

Btw: Big L F/ Fat Joe : Da Enemy => is his verse on this song wack? How about LL Cool J's I Shot Ya Remix? Diamond D's 5 Fingaz of Death?

Yes, I can.  Because they keep playing his old shit on Backspin Classic hip-hop station on my Satellite Radio, Channel 46.   That channel is a great channel, so when they were playing some old Fat Joe shit from way back then I was kind of surprised because it did sound a lot different than his newer shit.

..but bottom line at the end of the day the shit was still meaningless.  It's just shit like... "I'm fat Joe, (insert punchline here)/ (insert metaphor here)", blah blah blah..." meaningless trash.  And sometimes meaningless trash can atleast sound good, his shit didn't even sound good.

Actually, no.  I don't remember saying that.  I actually remember saying that I DO listen to Reasonable Doubt (even though it is a below average hip-hop album), because it came out in 1996 and I love almost anything that reminds me of 96.
