Nas, Common & Q-Tip Rumored To Be Forming As Super Group The Standard

The trio of emcees are reportedly joining forces for a project.

Back in 2007, Q-Tip and Common announced that they were forming the super group The Standard, though a full-length project is yet to come to light.

According to NYDN, Nas is reportedly set to join the group, though official plans are yet to be made for the group’s album. When asked if he plans to record with Q-Tip and Common, Nas responded, “Definitely,” fueling speculation that the duo could become a trio.

Q-Tip is also at work on his third official solo album, the follow up to 2008’s The Renaissance, while Nas is recording his next LP Life is Good.

This would certainly be a solid project, although I doubt it would happen.  Nas saying "definitely" doesn't mean anything.  Rappers always say that.  Unless he says something like, "yes, we are in the studio working on such and such album or we are planning to go to the studio to work on such and such album" then we shouldn't expect anything.

Also, I like Q-Tip behind the boards as a producer, but I've never been a fan of his solo work or Tribe Called Quest.  The always came off way to soft for me.  Same thing with Common.  Nas could add the edge to the album that it needs.
