Deathrow's "Snoop Dogg Challange"
« on: March 22, 2012, 01:45:58 AM »
When Suge put Snoops The Last Meal ablum up on the Deathrow website along side Dead Man Walking and asked people to choose which album was better,
was it an actual poll?

Were there any results from that?

It ould have been pretty funny for Suge if the votes came back that The Last Meal was the better album....which it prob was!

I think Dead Man Walking won, but then you could vote multiple times, so the voting system was biased considering it'd be admin staff, as well as dedicated Death Row fanatics checking out the website..

Besides that, I was one of the few who actually liked Dead Man Walking, and thought that it was a solid album..

Take away the movie skits, add the Prince sample to head doctor, and adding in those Eastside Party and Too high tracks that were meant to appear on it could have had a better reception from rap fans overall, because there were a lot of good tracks, overlooked due to lack of promotion, and a more current sought after album with Dre, Rage, Soopafly, battlecat, Nate and so on, it just couldn't compete on that level

Yup, I remember that.  I was bummed because the project got delayed, even though it had already appeared in Best Buy advertisements, and I remember at some point, it was supposed to include Midnight Love, which was a song I had been trying to hunt down.

Yeh, it was on that Doggfather single, but it too good a song to be placed in a B-side single like that.. I can't remember Midnight Love being included, but because you mentioned that song, as well as the 2 previously mentioned, I suppose it'd be safe to assume that the unreleased songs that appeared on the Death Row's Snoop's greatest hits were to appear on Dead Man Walkin

It was, even for anyone who had got that mixtape from yahoo auctions back in the day. I had that mixtape, and loved the album. Now, it shows just how good quality-wise the sound was from the Death Row then, to the Death Row now

Thanks for the info, yeah i guess it would have been pretty biased. I really like The Last Meal album but never got a copy of Dead Man Walking so i cant really comment
on it. I would think that i would maybe have liked DMW better as i love the mid 90's deathrow sound.

As for Midnite Love, that is easily one of my fave snoop tracks of all time!!

Sad to say, but I actually never knew that, regarding Midnight Love being on Tha Doggfather single.  I already owned the Tha Doggfather album, so I think when it came out, I wasn't really looking into the CD singles much.  Was that the domestic single or an import single?  I don't recall seeing it at local stores, but then again, I wasn't all that impressed with the album to begin with, but I do remember listening to the album again from start to finish looking for Midnight Love when I first heard it on the radio (but didn't know what it was called).

Yeah it does suprise me that it was only released as i B-Side as it also had a music video. Pretty strange for a track that's only going to be sold as B-Side.
I thought it must have appreared on a soundtrack or something but maybe not

It definitely didn't appear on any other official releases (at least not until Death Row Snoop Doggy Dogg Greatest Hits dropped), but it's not the first time a B-side got the video treatment on Death Row.  Hit 'Em Up comes to mind, even though that video was played less than a handful of times.

The track was originally intended for another Snoop project "doggumentary" EP that got scrapped. It was to be the first single from it and they included it within Doggfather. That entire album was basically going to be used as a quick promotional tool for Doggfather anyway because some of the tracks were remixes (Doggfather remix and Snoop's Snoop Bounce Rock remix which both coincidently appeared on that same Doggfather single) I guess they just saw it being a cheaper method to integrate the video and songs into the albums singles without having to release another whole new album, what would have inevitably been a flop IMO, and damaging to Death Row's succesful reputation after the Doggfathers disappointing early sales figures... If I remember right, I have a midnight love promo in CD, and vinyl, and both had midnight love as the feature track whilst Doggfather being the B-side along with the Doggfather remix, so it's almost clear that they were using these new songs to promote the earlier album... You see it in todays pop albums, at xmas time, they re-release them with 4 new bonus songs, and have a bonus song having a video to assist it.. Doggumentary was no different given the number of tracks that they planned to put on it

I think it would have been the domestic single it was on. Although I bought mine in the UK in my local music store, a lot of albums were imported from the US including the All Eyez on Me album when it first came out in that same store. Some larger stores at the time such as HMV were only in major city's back then, and stores like those were the only ones they seemed to distribute to directly.

this is pretty accurate, only i believe "Doggumentary EP" was set to be released AFTER "Doggfather", not before...I also remember some peeps on here sayin that it actually WAS released in a very limited supply as a Japanese import or some shit. then again, someone on here once claimed that they had an OG copy of "Doggystyle" which featured "Next Episode OG" and came with a red CD instead of a blue one. but to my recollection, there were more than a few peeps out there who spoke of "Doggumentary EP" coming out and then immediately being pulled off of shelves.

That's what I was meaning. It was to be released "afterwards" as a quick promotional tool to help increase awareness and sales for the disapointing Doggfather album, that's why most of the EP was to consist of remixed Doggfather cuts

I remember seeing an interview with Snoop a while back where he said his next album was going to be called Snoopafly.  Was that supposed to be a Death Row album, or was that something that was to happen after he signed to No Limit?  I can't remember but I think it was on BET.
