Rakim- 7th Seal - Appreciation Thread

bumpin "Won't Be Long"...

Dude is still rhyming at a high level, spitting ill shit like always.   Every track is very listenable.  I don't know that the album has any certified bangers ("Holy Are You" comes very close), but it appears every track is quality.

Appreciation? Are you serious? This album is mediocre at best. The singles are the only standout tracks on this album.

I am Rakim fan and I bought this album but I have to agree that it's his worst album. Still better than some mainstream crap.

Rap is not real, I don't care what they told you,
Fake people say fake things in their vocalbooth
- Soul Position - Mic Control

I make it hard to read me, graffiti flow - Rakim - Word On The Streets

This.
It isn't great, but Rakim is so goddam nice on the mic it's almost impossible for him to make a weak album.

This was a pretty weak album. I mean yeah the lyrics were there but everything else wasn't. This is what happens when an artist decides to make the cheapest album possible.

Pretty much. Definitely a few nice songs though.

btw, I saw a video on youtube where Rakim says he didn't appreciate Nas making the Unauthorized Biography.  He says Nas put some of his personal business out there in the track, and also that Nas never contacted him about the track to this day.  Seems odd that Nas would have so much reverence for Rakim and never bother to call him.  The song was a weak filler track anyway.

Worst album of his career by far

As far as solo albums go, I think he's maintained an integrity in quality with each album.  There is no decline in quality from one solo album to the next.

...but I think everybody agrees that none of his solo albums compare with the albums he did with Erik B.
