KAREEM ABDUL-JABBAR TAKES SHOTS AT BYNUM

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar takes some shots at Andrew Bynum

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was a special assistant coach for the Los Angeles Lakers beginning in 2005. His main task was working with Andrew Bynum to develop his low-post game and overall mental outlook on basketball. In other words, the two worked closely together for a number of years in Los Angeles. Following the blockbuster trade where the Lakers dealt Bynum for Dwight Howard, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar weighed in on the deal and managed to take some subtle shots at his former pupil.

"Dwight is very committed to playing and winning. Andrew has been up and down on that issue. There are times he wants to play, do a great job and he goes out and does it. Then there are other times where it seems like he's not focused."

"When I first started working with him, he was eager to learn. He appreciated me shortening the learning curve. Once he figured he did everything he wanted to do in terms of learning, he didn't want me to bother him constantly going over the fundamentals."

PRETTY MUCH

SHAQ IS A BITTER GUY. HE GETS EMOTIONAL QUICK. THE PROBLEM WAS THAT HE NEVER REACHED OUT TO KAREEM, AND HE EXPECTED KAREEM TO JUST COME KISS HIS ASS AND OFFER HIM MENTORING.

IT EVEN SAYS IN THE ARTICLE:

This episode has everything to do with both Abdul-Jabbar's introverted and often downright unfriendly personality as well as Shaq's own insecurities. After all, Abdul-Jabbar sounded more than willing to help Bynum as a Lakers special assistant coach when he was approached about it. It also reveals the mixed reception O'Neal received among former and current centers.

^^

BASICALLY, SHAQ IS A PRIMADONNA, AND HE EXPECTS EVERY1 TO COME KISS HIS ASS....HE DOESNT UNDERSTAND THAT IN KAREEM'S EYES, U GOTTA EARN HIS RESPECT. U GOTTA GO UP 2 HIM AND ASK HIM, "HEY, CAP, HOW CAN I DO THIS BETTER" OR WHAT NOT...SHAQ WAS SUPPOSED 2 REACH OUT 2 HIM, BUT HE HAS 2 BIG OF A EGO AND IS VERY INSECURE.

BYNUM IS MORE SIMILAR TO CAP IN PERSONALITY, SO HE UNDERSTOOD THAT HE HAD 2 REACH OUT 2 HIM IF HE WANTED HIS HELP.
