Nate Dogg's Family At Odds Over His Estate
« on: September 04, 2012, 06:49:25 AM »
Nate Dogg's family has been at odds over his estate since the singer passed away. Now, the arguments over money have intensified.

When Nate Dogg tragically passed away in 2011, he did not leave a will. This caused his wife, Latoya Calvin, and his children to have several disputes over how the late singer's assets should be divided. Calvin took control of the assets and reportedly filed documents this week, bringing Nate Dogg's mother, Ruth Holmes, into the fold as co-administrator of the estate. However, Nate Dogg's children disagree with this as well.

Nate Dogg's daughter, Aundrane Hale, recently spoke with TMZ about the situation and explained why they do not agree with their grandmother being named co-administrator.

"Ruth doesn't have my best interest or the interest of my brothers and sisters," Aundrane explained, while also adding that Holmes did not attend Nate Dogg's funeral.

According to Hale, Holmes has kept money away from Nate Dogg's children in the past and she believes the children won't receive money from Nate's estate in the future. She also said Holmes "was never a grandmother."

A judge has not ruled on the case as of yet.

Following his death in March 2011, Nate Dogg has posthumously left $200,000 in real estate to his six children.

According to TMZ, the former Death Row crooner did not write a will before he passed, and lawyers are currently divvying up his assets. In documents filed at L.A. County Superior Court, his home in Pomona, California is valued at $350,000 but he still owed $150,000.

His four daughters and two sons will inherit the estate, which may include more cash on top of the real estate. Additionally, earnings from his music will go to his children.

Weren't they saying a year ago they needed donations from us average citizens in paying for his hospital bills? What a bunch of B.S.

It's a little more complicated than that.  It's not like the assets of one's estate are delivered the next day after someone passes.

I've mentioned before that it was dumb for Nate Dogg to presumably not have had proper health or life insurance, which would've made everything a lot easier and covered a good portion, if not all, of his bills while providing some money for his family (and perhaps even paying off money owed on his home for it to be paid outright).

Now this is a perfect example of why he should've had estate planning, which is a lot more than just a will.  Estate planning would've dictated where his money and/or assets go, plus it makes it a lot easier to complete.  But because Nate had neither estate planning nor a will, all of his shit will have to go through probate, which will take at least a couple of years.  Additionally, when shit goes through probate, they keep/charge a certain percentage of what is passed along.

It just goes to show that a lot of these rappers don't plan things all that well, even when they're in positions to make those decisions and choices.
