Eight games into a season is far too early for a statement, but the Clippers’ came about as close as a team can to making one Wednesday night. They grappled with the Miami Heat for the better part of three quarters, before Chris Paul scored 13 points in the final 3:21 of the third to put L.A. up for good. The Clippers pulled away in the fourth quarter to win their fourth game in a row, 107-100, in a raucous atmosphere at Staples Center. The Clippers moved to 6-2 on the year with wins over the Grizzlies, Spurs, Lakers and now the defending champions. Paul finished with 16 points and 10 assists, Jamal Crawford had a team-high 22 points off the bench, and Blake Griffin added his most dominant game of the season, going for 20 points, 14 board and six assists in 30 minutes. Griffin went 8-for-16 from the field, including four jumpers from beyond 16 feet. LeBron James a game-high 30 for Miami, but Heat failed to keep pace with the Clippers’ bench in the fourth. After grabbing an 11-point lead entering the final frame, the five-man unit extended the lead to as large as 20 points with James and superstar Dwyane Wade on the floor for the majority of the run.
Clippers are becoming the closest thing I've had to a Western conference team to root for1-they are the Lakers cross-town rivals2-they have the second best point guard right now (behind Rondo) making them very exciting3-Blake is a BEAST4-they got Grant Hill, one of the classiest guys in the league5-they're the best team in LA
