Now 32, Quik has seen it all since his teens: gang rumbles (during a brief fling with the Treetop Piru Bloods); diss wars (his MC Eiht face-off back in '96 ended with somebody getting iced at El Rey); the horrors of the music biz; and the pointless assassinations of a collaborator (MC Mausberg) and two mentor-idols (Jam Master Jay and Roger Troutman).

Oh yea he's a complete fake. pshhhh

C'mon now, u thought Quik was some kind of super OG? he never claimed to be the hardest banger or any shit like that, just that he's affiliated.

He's one of the realest in the game, and personally my favorite rap producer, which is all that matters. get it riiiight

look at any other mutha fuckin article about Dj Quik.....in all of them they say he grew up bangin with the Compton Tree Top Pyru Bloods, now it says that he had beef with them n shit, i'm gonna try and find the other article.....

From references to Compton's Tree Top Piru Bloods in his songs to dropping the "c" from Quik because it stands for "Crips," DJ Quik (born David Blake) leaves little doubt about either the authenticity of his gangsta rap or which side he's on. Quik grew up in Compton as a gang member; he left that life for music, but still remains true to his roots and old connections. In 1991, when he was 20, Quik recorded his debut album, Quik Is the Name; it and its follow-up, Way 2 Fonky, went gold. Dissatisfied with his life and his musical direction, Quik signed with Death Row Records and made CEO Marion "Suge" Knight his manager. The results were Quik's best album, 1995's Safe + Sound, which draws heavily on the influence of Parliament-Funkadelic.
